Well, it is earlier than I had anticipated but word out of Green Bay is that the legendary Brett Favre has the itch to come back. Rumor has it he was irked by Koko's attempt at bashing him on our very own site and wanted to come back to avenge the Giants fluke victory, but this can be neither confirmed nor denied at this point. Anyway, according to Mort and ESPN:
"With his family "tugging" on him to play, Brett Favre has an "itch" to come out of retirement and report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers later this month, according to sources close to the team and player. Favre has communicated his potential desire to coach Mike McCarthy but talks have not advanced to a substantive stage, a Packers source said."
My first reaction was oh boy not again. Favre did hold the team hostage last year until at the last minute deciding to come back. My next reaction was poor Aaron Rodgers, this guy has been busting his ass getting ready to finally step out from Brett's shadows and prove to the world what he can do.
However, then just like in any great Rocky Montage that background music kicked in for me and I thought you know what...Screw it...This is Brett F'in Favre and if he wants to come back then I am on board 100% and will be even more excited for this season than any other season before. Let's remember this was a team that was 13-3 (Better record than the Giants) and had home field advantage for the NFC Championship and came within a luck Overtime INT of making it to the Superbowl. Brett Favre has meant more in my life than even Rocky Balboa......and he is a hero to many and still a legend. If this guy wants to give it another go you can only ask him "Are you Sure?" and if he says yes you have no choice but to throw him the keys.
Yes, they do have a QB in Aaron Rodgers who has been patiently being groomed for this day but at the same time you still have one of the greatest QB's of all time coming off of a pro-bowl year where he lead his team to the NFC Championship. In the real world you don't just get promotions because you have put your time in. You have to earn them and Brett has earned every right to come back and Rodgers has not proven a thing. Besides if Rodgers has a problem the Pack can trade him and mortgage their future on Brian Brohm which is to say I still like any 3 of the Packers QB options as opposed to the Dolphins.
Many of you will probably bash his decision blah blah blah if anything actually does come of this rumor. Remember this is only a rumor at this point. I always knew he would come back but my guess was around week 6 or 8 when Aaron Rodgers got
hurt and the Pack came calling.
Anyways, this may not come as a surprise to most, but the moment Favre retired I thought of this speech Apollo said to Rocky right before he came out of retirement to fight Drago.
"You can't change what you really are. We are fighters. You can forget all the money you have and everything else it don't change a thing. We don't even have a choice. We were born with a killer instinct, you cant turn off and on like some radio. We have to be in the action cause were warriors and without some challenge and without a war to fight then the warrior may as well be dead. As a friend stand by my side this one last time"
And yes, if Brett decides to come back I will stand by his side one last time and so will Packer Nation. Let's just hope it doesn't end like it did for Apollo.

This is excellent news. Now if the Giants meet the Packers in the playoffs again, they will be sure to get another lucky INT off of Farve. Here comes another Super Bowl. Old man, enjoy your health while you still have it, raise your kids. I think Farve had a great year for a Vet in 07, it would be a mistake for him to comeback. But who the hell am I, if Keiths idol wants to come back, let him.
Yes, Brett has dominated nearly every team in the league during his career. However, one could argue that the Giants of all teams have benefitted the most from him.
He gave them a chance to make history by coughing up that INT in OT......and He laid down for Strahan giving him the single season Sack record.......Hmmmm I smelll a conspiracy here???
You got a point there, maybe its time the Giants return the favor.
I really do respect Favre as a player, but I'm starting to think he's an emotional wreck. The guy can't make a serious decision.
Also he's being kind of an asshole to the team and to Rogers. If he comes back and I was Rogers, I'd would demand a trade. How long is the kid suppose to wait? Football careers are short enough.
