I know this has been a debate within the Dojo but I do not believe Em is the greatest rapper. I think he is a great lyricist and may be one of the best to freestyle. I like most his songs but can only listen to him for so long. I like this song and feel as if Em matured by releasing this as his first song to the new album instead of one of his silly songs. I also like loose yourself and think its his greatest song. Also it looks like he lost weight and has been working out. Oh, I like his Nike's too. BTW, was he referencing this song to anyone in particular?

I think that's his most epic track since Lose Yourself.

He's referencing the song to himself.

Prosthetic Johnson said...

Well I got that but I thought he mentioned something in the begining. I thought wrong.

In other rap news, Snoop Dog has officially and without doubt, "jumped the shark" with his ridiculous True Blood rap about Sookie. In fact, I propose that the reference "jumped the shark" be renamed "sookied".

For example, you could say that Happy Days officially "sookied" when the fonz jumped over the shark waterskiing.

Did anyone else see it? This is a former crip we are talking about.

We finally agree on something Regs. I don't watch the show but I heard about this. What the fuck is that about!. The definition of "SELL OUT"! I'm guessing a collabo with Justin Bieber is next!

I don't understand, it's not like Snoop has been a real force in rap for over a decade. He's become more of a personality than a real artist.

When's the last time he had an album that blew up.

Or even a hit song for that fact.

He went commercial a long, long time ago. To say he sold out now is arriving a little late to the party.

It's like being outraged at the goofy parts that Christopher Walken takes now. It's been quite a while since he's had a credible role. But just like Walken, Snoop is still very entertaining and funny when used in the right way.

Also, it's not like HBO went to Snoop and asked him to do this. Snoop is a HUGE True Blood fan and did this on his own.

Oh and no, we are not replacing "Jump The Shark," with "sookied." In fact Reger, it could be said that you just Jumped the Shark with that suggestion.

Sell-Out? What about those Hamsters that sold out to Kia?

Yea gotta agree with Koko...Snoop is more of a personality than a rapper.

Also, THE worst 30 for 30 ESPN did was allow Ice-Cube and Snoop to produce the Raiders one. Horrible...is was more about their rap careers than it was about sports and/or the Raiders. They dragged on and on how they made the Raiders and Al Davis famous......not the NFL.

First and only 30 for 30 I couldn't finish.

Koko said...

Yeah I saw that one too Keith, not my favorite either. Didn't really give any insight. Just stuff everyone already knew.

Prosthetic Johnson said...

Yeah, I also saw Snoop in a FIFA commercial. Did you catch that one?

Regs said...

I don't care. Snoop has had several hits recently. sexual seduction for one and a bunch of collaborations where he brought his signiture sound with either sexual or weed references. I would say he stayed reletively close to his roots. Of course he evolved, but it wasn't that much of a stretch.

That True Blood song was just silly and retarded.

Rich said...

Great!!!Now the fucker can fly like Superman. I'm sure Koko is wetting his pants right now. Anyway, it is a pretty good track.

Maybe you should sit this one out KOKO! Not a topic your an expert on. Snoop has been a force in rap over the past decade with some hit songs. Put on one of those "Collective Soul" or "Creed" albums you listen too! I agree he's become more of a personality but this was more retarded then usual.

on a side note. For once an album with no stupid "interludes" or "skits" that pass as a track number. 17 straight songs! AWSOME!

Double S said...

Wanna see something funny? Turn on the Em song but watch the hamsters without sound.

BTW, did Em crack on his last album in the song?

I agree that Snoop hasn't had a good song since Doggystyle. He is a personality first before artist. Broko & Regs, name his last good song. I'll find it & listen to it then get back to you whether it's good or not.

I don't have to be an expert in rap to know that Snoop Dog has not had a solid hit in over 10 years.

Please name the hit songs you are talking about.

And by the way, if it doesn't get to the ears of people that are not major fans of rap, then it's not a big hit. I'm not saying you can't like it or that it's not good, but it's still not a hit.

Snoop is definitely more of a personality now. And a good one at that. The True Blood song is no different than all of the comedy sketches, commercials, or cameo apperances he's done before. It was just something fun he did as a huge fan of the show. I was laughing the whole way through it, as inteneded. It was not a serious song, just a funny take on a pop culture phenomenon. Is that not allowed?

Eminem has had songs on every one of his past albums making fun or parodying pop culture and for the most part everyone has loved them.

I call racism. When's a black man going to get a break in this rap business?

Also, Rich I think it is now you who is fixated on Superman. Although Eminem has had many Superman references in his past songs, that was way more of a take on Neo.

Let’s use the Wiki definition of “top Hit”, “hits”, “chart Hit”. A chart hit is an extremely popular recording, identified by its inclusion in a chart that uses sales or other criteria to rank popular releases. From the years 2000 to 2010 Snoop Dogg came out with five albums and had multiple “Top Hits” a from each.

2000 Tha Last Meal- Lay Low, what’s my name pt. 2

2002 Paid the Cost to be da Boss- Beautiful (the Neptunes)

2004 R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta) - Drop it like its Hot (the Neptunes)

2006 The Blue Carpet Treatment- I want to F*&k you (Akon)

2008 Ego Trippin- Sexual eruption

He used everybody from Timberland and the Neptunes to Akon and Everlast in all his albums. So did he sell out? Yes. It’s not his fault though. He took the money to the bank and created a Snoop Dogg Conglomerate. Good for him. He is riding the cash wave. He is getting old and can’t always b a Gangsta Rapper. However for us Doggystyle fans, he totally sold out and has become as commercial as the Jonas Brothers.

As a matter of Fact, most artists of the 2000’s are in the same boat. They are all commercial or had to go that route to make it in this world. Even the Stroke’s went from a great first album to a mediocre third just to make more money.

LOL, man I love wiggers....

I'm not asking you to be an expert koko, but you should know at least a little bit about music when talking about it....which you don't! If it gets the the ears of "rap" fans then it is a big hit in "rap", and we are talking about his influence in rap music. "beautiful" and "drop it like its hot" were in the last 10 years and were both major hits along with others you wouldn't even recognize cause you don't know music! Go get your shine box!!!

Also it doesn't make me a wigger cause i'm white and listen to rap. Thats a little small minded isn't it? Welcome to the 21st century Swami.

Koko said...

Ok, I agree Drop it Like it's Hot was a pretty big hit. I forgot about that one.

But I think the focus of the argument has been lost. It was about him runining his credibility with the Sookie song. Which is a ridiculous notion, considering he's been involved with spoofs and comedy for virtually his whole career. The point was to make you laugh, which I did.

If you didn't then save your money on the shoe shine and go buy yourself a sense of humor.

Anonymous said...

Yea he always does stuff like this but that was a little over the top, even for him. The whole point of this was Eminem has a new album out...Its all Regs fault! Where do they sell "Sense of humor"? Walmart?

The Swami said...

“Welcome to the 21st Century”? Seriously? And what keyboard tough guy ego of yours thinks that I am even referring to you chump? Concequently, I have been a large fan of Marshall Mathers’ lyrical style since you were a lil git jerkin with your bottle of Jergens and proudly own all his CDs as well as all underground releases I can get my hands on. Hence the statement, “I love wiggers.” Now go call someone from Apple customer service and yell at them so you can feel like a man.

Koko said...

Well to be fair Swami, "wigger," is a pretty offensive term when you break down exactly what it's saying.

And it isn't really something anyone says anymore either.

Cool to know you are such a big Eminem fan though. I'm finding out a lot about you on the Dojo. So you are a big Em and Superman fan huh? Now all you need to do is get you hands on a copy of Boat Trip and we'll be blood brothers.

Also, do you have a copy of Infinite?

Swami, if you tell Koko your favorite player is Mattingly, he might have the biggest mancrush on you.

Have a great weekend guys. Good luck vs Swim n Fun. I'll be swimming in alcohol in New Orleans in a few short hours.

Koko said...

Oh that's right, have a good trip Sully, and don't forget to snap some good pics on Bourbon St.

And my favorite player as a kid was Mattingly, but Jeter has well overshadowed him.

The Swami said...

Well I guess you are right. In the age of special interest groups and PC terminology I guess the proper term would have to be pseudo-urban aglo-saxon-african American. I apologize if anyone was offended, like I was about yet another invite for Boat Trip. Look Koko, I saw the previews, isn’t that enough? And if you like Boat Trip, I won’t judge. I think you your people should be able to get married and all that other stuff too.

Koko said...

Ok, keep making fun of it and miss out on one of the hottest chicks of all time Roselyn Sanchez.

If watching her is gay, then color me fabulous.

And yes I do like your new term for urban whites. It has a cool acronym . . . PUASAA. Sounds like a lion queen's vagina.

Double S said...

I'm baaaaaaaaack in the ORL but I left my voice & a LOT of money in New Orleans. She won, and my body feels broken.

Ya'll are funny Swami & Koko. I admit, I've seen most of that Boat Trip movie & it was horrible. I don't even remember what the girl looks like whom Koko is referring to.
