Koko flavored Mini Rants

Posted by Koko

- The Ringling Bros. and Lebron James Circus:

NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING!!! Secret meetings, denial of secret meetings, World Wide West, Stephen A. Smith guarantees he's going to New York, Stephen A. Smith guarantees he's going to Miami, and a partridge in a crazy tree.

In the end, he'll probably just sign a 3-year deal in Cleveland.

- Strasburg in the All-Star Game

If you're going to hijack something as important as home-field advantage in the World Series, then you don't get to judge managers for taking the very best players available. Most likely the manager of an All-Star team has his team in contention for the playoffs this year. Of course they want to win so they can have home field in the World Series, so why not pick the best players to do so? Strasburg definitely belongs in the game, end of story.

-He's the best, GAME OVER!

Yet another album that debuts at number 1. Okay, time to face facts. It's not an accident. I think it is safe to now say this guy is pretty good. No more arguments of whether he belongs in the top 10, just where he places in it. And for my money, it's #1. This album is his best since The Eminem Show and it may even be his second best album overall.

- Obama is not a super hero

What do you want this man to do? Where was this outrage from the right when Bush did nothing while New Orleans was sinking into the ocean? Which by the way was an actual disaster that we had contingency plans in place for. They just weren't used properly or better yet, not at all.

What plan was Obama suppose to put into action when the oil rig exploded? The Aquaman Initiative? There are no plan B's, no fail-safes, no government protocol for this oil spill. Everything is being done on the fly. Do you know why? Because companies like BP have been deregulated down to the honor system. And we all know how much honor there is in big business. Also, please take note. Obama is not a king or a dictator. He does not have an Obama wand to make people do what he wants. I wish he did. I wish Harry Potter would loan Obama his wand just for a few days since he sucks with it anyway. What he can do, he is and has been doing since the beginning. Making sure BP is held accountable and pays for every single penny of the cleanup.

Case in point, Obama tried to get 30 of the over 2000 oil rigs we have in and around the gulf to stop drilling. Only about 30 rigs are actually used to drill the mile deep holes. All Obama wanted to do was stop the drills, not the extraction and production of oil, just the fucking drills. And not forever, just until we get this spill under control and new fail-safes in place. Now once again, he's not a king. He can't just command it, he has to go through the Louisiana courts. So what happens? The courts denied it and then republicans throw another rally of lies, calling out Obama for trying to throw all the oil workers to the unemployment line, when he only wanted to stop 30 of the god damn drilling rigs temporarily.

Why? No really I'm asking, why. Why would we want to keep the same processes in place when something like this could happen again, why would we not want to make sure every rig has new fail-safes in place? Why wouldn't everyone want that? Oh I know why, because this country was bought and paid for a long, long time ago. Evolution of the country or even the human race is not the goal. It's all about the green pieces of paper. That's all we care about. That's our real king, our real god, our real motivation for everything. It's pathetic and as far as the human race has come, as a whole, we are still small-minded beings.

This movie has been in production for quite a while. They've had several script changes and their original director/Kato walked out because of creative differences.

Looks like they've kept it light, which is appropriate for this character, and although Seth Rogan is not the prototypical hero type, his slacker personality fits the character for this generation. Especially since Kato was always the guy who did all the work anyway.

The Best Commercial of 2010!

What a Tremendous Game 7 Last Night. The lakers prevailed down the stretch and that is what true closers do. Kobe was awful from the field shooting something like 5-25 but he made the shots when they counted and that's all that matters. Watching the last five minutes it just had this feeling like you knew Kobe and the Lakers were going to win, and the Celtics seemed to be playing scared and playing NOT to lose.

Playing NOT to lose always kills a team. I don't know what it is but when one team is hunting down another in a close game it always seems like the one Hunting is the one that prevails. You can't play hesitant basketball in the final minutes of Game 7.

For how great Rondo was in the playoffs it felt like he was scared to create something in the final minutes. He had plenty of open looks and the only two three's he took were out of desperation when he needed to heave them up. But, the Lakers did play some incredible defense down the stretch.

Artest had a great finishing game.....but he is truly a kook. I would love to see his teammates and him interact on flights and bus trips. Do you think they all love to hear him talk cause he is goofy and entertaining or do they avoid getting in a conversation with him like the plague?

Regardless, for some reason every time this Kia Hamster "Black Sheep" Commercial comes on I seem to enjoy it more and more. Plus, I think They are long lost relatives of Pau Gasol......what an ugly dude.

June 17, 1994

Posted by Koko

Today is the 16th anniversary of the weirdest day is sports history. What makes this anniversary so special is the parallel it draws with that eerie weekend back in '94.

The NBA Finals is being played, there is a special focus on a golf tournament, and the World Cup is underway.

However those are only minute details to what made June 17, 1994 so surreal.
If you only watch one of the ESPN 30 for 30 films, make sure it's this one.

Mortal Kombat Update

Posted by Koko

So it turns out that the previous Mortal Kombat short film that I posted a few days ago was in no way associated with Warner Bros., who now owns the property rights. It was shot in just 2 days by director Kevin Tancharoen. His goal was to get the video to go viral (mission accomplished), so that the studio would take notice and green light the project for a full feature film. I hope he succeeds.

As for the new game, here is the new trailer for it. The development team promises the most brutal and gory fatalities of all time.

Mortal Kombat - Movie or Game?

Posted by Koko

This Mortal Kombat trailer has leaked onto the internet, but it is not clear whether this is a trailer for new movie or a new video game. Most likely it's for a game because the biggest game convention is right around the corner, but I think it would make a kick ass movie too.

i learned some things too...

Posted by jenny

After reading the weekend review posted by Keith, I realized that I too learned a few things on my summer vacation –

After spending at least 3 months establishing the “Lady Kai rules of appropriate behavior” with the bachelor up to bat… I was finally ready to relax and embark on what was sure to be an outstanding weekend with the ladies! This being the last of the bachelorette parties, we have not only mastered the art of celebration, but learned how to pace ourselves so as not to “blow our load” on the first night!

Here’s what I learned:

- A hotel will bend over backwards to accommodate the Lady Kai’s – all you have to do is ask!

- Raspberry Lemonade and Vodka is a perfect poolside beverage and stores nicely in a Vitamin Water bottle.

- Liz has a superpower of her own – controlling the universe! And it’s a good thing; otherwise we would probably end up like the guys, in a hurry to go nowhere!

- A feather Boa really completes any outfit!

On a side note, a feather boa in public will make random guys do anything you ask, including but not limited to the following: letting you write on them with a permanent marker, buying drinks, and on occasion – handing over their underwear should we dare to ask! (gross!)

- Even with the removal of our Lady Kai attire, we STILL LOOK FABULOUS!

- Meritza has a wild side! (it might have been the boa that put her over the edge!)

- Penis paraphernalia never gets old! And they make great pool floaties too!

- 6 girls can simultaneously shower, do their hair and make-up, swap clothes and gossip in a tiny hotel bathroom without a bit of stress or drama

- We all need Colonics

- Allison simply can NOT keep a secret to save her life!

- Male strippers should wear better shoes!

- The husbands gossip as much as the wives do

- It’s the simple things that really delight us too… chocolate covered strawberries at 3am, a pedicure and 4 hours at the spa hanging out in our robes and enjoying the steam room!

Lastly, and most importantly – I learned how lucky we all are to have each other! Thanks to our friends for yet another amazing weekend! See ya in Beantown, Boys!

Those were the Days.....

Posted by Keith G.

The Boston Celtics haven't had such a Physical Test in the Playoffs since they faced the might beasts of the East in 1985 the Great Milwaukee Bucks. Ahh....Those were the good ol days of the NBA.

Where a good ol fashioned punch or WWF style takedown earned you credit rather than "Anger Managment" counseling. There were not 7 techs and you had to sit out a game. A hard Foul was a badge of Honor.

Also, I can't stop thinking about the Pau Gasol Heist. Every minute I watched of the Finals last night I couldn't stop thinking that the Lakers have been to the finals every year since they Heisted Pau Gasol from the poor Grizzlies.

I mean, if there isn't a more shady trade in the history of Sports I would love to hear about. This has to be hands down the "Shadiest" Trade in all of sports.

A little Background just in case you were unaware:

Jerry West is a Lakers Icon. Literally, he is the silhoutte for the NBA Logo and was a Lakers Legend. He even worked in the Lakers Front office until he bolted for Memphis for some reason. He is very Close with Mitch Kupchak and Kobe Bryant still to this day.

Then, a Year into his job his New Team (Grizzlies) Inxexplicably trade Pau Gasol to his old team For a pile of turds.

Lakers Get: An Elite Big Man whom was averaging 19 pts,9 Rebs, 3 dimes, and 1.4 BPG.

Grizz get: Kwame Brown (Major Bust), Javaris Crittendon (Nothing), Aaron Mckie (Nothing) and 2 1st Rd Picks. Now, 2 1st Rd picks sounds pretty good. Yea, maybe if this were the NFL that would be phenomanal. But in the NBA, if you aren't drafted in the top 10 chances of you making an impact are very minimal. And, the Lakers were an elite team thus no chance in obtaining lottery status....so basically nothing.

You may argue that the Grizz had to dump him etc.etc....which is valid. However, many other teams were offering much better packages than essentially the nothingness turd package the Grizz received.

Many NBA Insiders were flabergasted when the trade was announced. Even Spurs Coach Greg Poppovich was livid and said this:

"That Trade was Beyond Comprehension" Yea, Sorry for Pop that trade would pretty much end the Spurs run at a titles.

Just curious to hear the Dojo's reaction and if anybody can come up with a Shadier Trade than that.

What I learned on My Summer Vacation

Posted by Keith G.

Ahh Yes, another Bachelor is about to enter the realm of the Wedded and receive his green jacket. And as Koko noted, the Team sent him off in a successful bachelor party weekend where nobody managed to violate any of the Lady Kai’s Rules like if you do anything insanely stupid, like get a tattoo, make out with another woman or marry someone else in a drunken haze, I'm gonna chop your balls off and watch you bleed to death" rules of conduct.

We did incur our First “Monetary Fine” after Richard was doing his best Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka impression at the Hard Rock and busted a hole 6 feet wide in the wall but looking back the team is just glad that is all that got broken….if you think about it the last guy you would want to see flying through the air in a small hotel room with 13 guys in it would be Richard.

Also, as Koko noted the team is learning how to travel in large packs much better. We have come a long way since the Vegas Experience. And here is some other things the group learned at Mikey’s Bachelor party weekend.

-Our Uniforms are quite deceiving as once we hit the beach and our shirts came off I realized the Cobra Kai are not very handsome dudes………and we ALL have some variation of a beer gut

-We all need Colonics

-We have now perfected the 13 man shower in one house in under one hour….without having to share a shower…..I think.

-We need to simply develop a muzzle for Sully.

-Who’s a Douchebag? A bunch of loud and obnoxious Basketball fans watching the Magic Vs Celtics playoffs at a Family restaurant after 89 pitchers of beers.

-You know your old, when the guy that comes over to talk smack to your table ends up being friends with you….that’s right Ryan..AKA”I’m going to punch this guy out”….I mean I am going to buy him a shot and hit on his girlfriend and then hug him goodbye.

-Juan is ready to fight…..even a women…. if he thinks they are calling him a “Manatee”….(Editors note…there actually was a Manatee in the Ocean the old lady was pointing at)

-We should buy a leash for Neil anytime we are within 500 yards of any type of gambling establishment…….We eclipsed our old Over of 786 times asking “Where is Neil?”. When each and every one of us knew there was only 1 of 2 places he could be….(The Bathroom and the Casino)

-Amazingly, it is humanely possible to drink yourself sober after you eclipse the 45 beer mark in one day. However, to accomplish this you had to come close to that same mark the night before.

-I feel like we are always in a hurry to go Nowhere?

-Koko has a hidden superpower. Once when we were weaving in and out of traffic on one of our countless journeys back to the beachside we encountered a traffic jam leading up to the SunPass Line. At this point Koko rode the wave of momentum in the Righthand “Change Provided” Lane against logic and the vote of the backseat drivers. He unprcedentedely passed 50 cars in the right lane and then at the last minute swerved back over 2 full lanes to the bewilderment of every single onlooker back into the Sunpass lane at the only moment he could to fly right through the toll. Some Father pointed out his maneuver and told his son…one day you will accomplish something that great.

-The Hard Rock uses water in their world famous Oatmeal much to the dismay of Scotty.

-Regs simply has a deep rooted hatred for any type of Taxi/Shuttle driver that I am convinced has some great story behind it. Our apologies to Sayid for Regs untrusting nature.

-“Poison” by Alice Cooper is one of the THE Greatest Intro Songs for gentlemanly establishments I can think of.

-It takes exactly 3 days to recover from a weekend like that both mentally and physically.

-It’s the Simple things that really delight us. We threw around cash like it was Monopoly money all weekend but the moment we got Free parking at the Rays game it seemed to be the pinnacle of the entire weekend.

Onward and Upward my Friends!

Perfect Timing

Posted by Koko

It may have been a nightmare for Galarraga, but Jim Joyce's blown call at first base last night may have just saved baseball from an even worse fate.

With all of the horrible calls and umpire behavior this year, a botched perfect game could not have come at a better time. It will now be almost impossible for the baseball committee to deny that the game needs replay in a big way. And it needs it before something of this magnitude happens in the playoffs or even worse, the World Series.

So let the discussions begin about how baseball should finally install instant replay into more facets of the game.

I say just copy the NFL system which seems to work rather well. Each manager should get 2 opportunities to challenge a call ( no balls or strikes, just plays at bases or fair/foul) and if they get both challenges correct, they get a 3rd. And most importantly, if a manager uses a challenge there is no discussion or argument from the umpires, no umpire meeting, just an immediate look at the replay to get the call correct. This will actually save time in the game from the bitch and wine system we have now.

Last of the MohiKais

Well the last bachelor has had the last send off, at least for the forseeable future. It was another classic Cobra Kai production. Even though we still have a lot of rough spots to iron out, I would say this was the most organized and together we've ever been on a group vacation. We've certainly come a long way since Vegas.
And, we still maintain a 0% arrest record, so that's a plus.
Next stop . . . Beantown.
