We all know who's the most interesting man in the world, but now with Michael Jackson gone, who steps up as the most famous?
Is it the other MJ? Is it Ali, Oprah, Obama? NO! I know exactly who it is . . .
. . . Johnny Drama!

I think at this point in history....it has to be Jesus....Oh wait...half our followers don't beleive he existed........
Thus...I would say it is Pres. Obama. He is the first african American Pres of the leaders of the free world and that country is in a tailspin. And he has a muslim name........what better perfect storm for popularity worldwide.
Jordan would have the best opportunity but he has been laying low for the last decade golfing etc.......
Ali??? I have heard people note him in this argument...but I'm willing to bet most people under the age of 22 worldwide could not name him if shown his picture.
Obama??? I'm willing to guess 91% of the world could name him.
91% huh Keith? I would love to see the algorithms you use to achieve those precise calculations.
By the way, whether you believe in Jesus or not, he's still dead so he doesn't qualify anyway.
My vote would have to be Obama as well.
Obama ?!?!?! Are you kidding me?
Just because somebody is recognizable today does not make him famous overall. Under that assumption, the person on any given day that is the most searched person on Google would be the most famous. Susan Boyle and Adam Lambert would be 2 of the most famous people. Longevity plays a role, for sure, in judgeing fame.
Obama was a first term Junior Senator from the most corrupt state in the Union. Nobody even knew who he was 2 years ago. After his ridiculous first term disaster, he will get voted out and hardly anyone will remember him.
You can't just have a position of power, you have to be successful at it. Jackie Robinson is a famous baseball player because he was not only a barrier breaker, but because he was a great player. People don't remember Chuck Cooper (first black NBA player) as well as Robinson, because his career was not as successful. Even though, in baseball, there are hardly any black players left, whereas in basketball, there whole league is practically black.
With that said, I think the most famous person alive today is Oprah Winfrey by a large margin over everyone else, because of her vast success and impact over people, in addition to the racial and gender barriers that she broke.
What a coincidence, I'm about to go on a trip to New York and Regs just got back from Fantasyland.
Gooooood for you! And how was it?
Listen Regs, this wasn't about politics, just about fame. Fame has nothing to do with longevity, whether you're a good or bad person, racial barriers, none of that. Just who is the most famous, most recognizable person.
The President of the United States is always in the top 5 no matter who it is at the time. This president is easily one of the most popular in history. In fact he may be even more popular worldwide than he is in this country. W was pretty popular too but for completely different reasons as we all know. True, Obama was a junior senator, and W was a drunk and coke head who coudn't find oil in Texas. It really doesn't matter what you did before you were famous, it just matters how famous you are right now.
I thought Oprah was a good pick because her show is on all over the world and she does a lot to help people, even though she needs to pay a whole lot more attention to the projects she starts. However, if you do not have access to television or internet, you probably would never have heard of her, but there's a good chance you've heard of Obama by now. Especially in poorer countries. Obama's election was a great sign of hope for the world, and there is no bigger racial barrier in history than the one Obama broke.
My point was that, I think, you have to be well known for longer than 1 year to be considered famous, in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't matter what your job happens to be. Like I said, if the criteria was limited to a short fleeting moment, Susan Boyle would have recently been one of the most famous people, based upon searches and youtube downloads. I agree that "today" Obama is well known. Only time will tell if he becomes famous.
My vote goes to Tiger Woods. He appeals to a multitude of people,he's some sort of oriental,he's colored and he plays golf. His face is plastered all over the television,he took a sport that at one time was thought to be a a game for old rich white men and broke through color barriers and brought a game that without him would have never filtered into urban communities. He is the Michael Jordan of the new millenium. You give any kid in America a picture of Tiger or a picture of Obama and I guarantee they know what Tiger Woods looks like
You know what.....Great call Mikey.
You may have won me over with that one. Tiger would win the most recognized photo contest I think.
Plus, I think I saw he got hurt with the slow economy by taking a 28% paycut this year lowering is 2008 profit to $99 Million!!!!!
And last year was the first year he did not rake in at least $100 mil per since 2004????? Are you serious??????? $100 some mil a year for the last 5 years plus????
That has to be one famous mother fu%#er to rake that in!
And Regs.......the Oprah argument is strong but arguement against Obama is a little off.
The example of Susan Boyle is a tough one...cause I would still have no idea who she is if it werent for Scotty's heartwarming video he posted.....because of that I listened when I heard tiny excerpts of what was going on with her.....but she was popular now she's back to not........
Regs it's not a matter of interpretation. There's no qualification for "famous" except how many people know of your existance.
Now if we were debating the levels of fame, such as people known for a one time event, or a great career, that's a different story. But we're just talking about the most famous person in the world. No matter what they're known for.
Good call on Tiger Mikey, and if we were just talking about the US he'd definitely be in the running but golf is not as popular across the globe as it is in this country or even England. There are soccer players that are more famous than Tiger worldwide. We just don't give a shit about them.
I thought of another one, Queen Elizabeth has to be in the conversation, doesn't she?
There is room for interpretation, because I would only include 1st world countries in the arguement because they have the access points needed to measure the relative fame of a person. Nobody really knows whether or not some textile worker in Indochina has any idea who somebody famous would be except for the fact that they might be working for one of Oprahs companies
and Oprah is from what country? The US. And who is the president there? Obama! see its Obama.
Well let's see we were talking about the entire world. But you're right Regs, I mean we should focus on the really important part of the planet? So let's just eliminate 3rd world countries because . . . ah whatever we don't need a reason. Fuck'em, they should've been more proactive with their industry.
Fuck Mexico, Fuck South America and fuck the entire continent of Africa as well. No one there is worth counting.
Hey, maybe this kind of thinking should be constructed into a political campaign. Perhaps a leader that thinks this country is the only one that matters is just what we need. I even know the motto he can run his campaign on, "Either you're with us, or against us." Yeah! That'll work. . .
. . . . OOOOOHHHHHH, Fuck me. That was the last 8 years that bankrupted the country and alienated us from the entire world. My bad. Forget I mentioned it.
AAAHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHA! Silly republicans!
How did this turn into a political argument???
Regs, you are right that some factory worker in Indochina might not know whom Tiger, Oprah, or Obama is......but if they never heard of either of these 3....chances are they aren't up on much news....so basically their vote would be negated in general.
Obama's presidency reminds a lot of the first time i got a credit card in college. I was up late and saw a commercial for a Frank Sinatra gold credit card. I ordered it and it opened my eyes to a whole new world. I could spend money that I didn't have and not have to pay it back. Wow, what a concept!!! The only problem was that after I graduated, I found out that I had to pay that money back. ooops. Or I couldn't take out any more loans or get approved for any credit. That part sucked.
The difference is that I was young and stupid and Obama is not and his "credit card" has a much higher maximum than my $5000.
Didn't he inherit this deficit from the republicans? Arent they the ones who came into power 8 years ago with a surplus which was given to them afte 8 years of democrats? I agree nothing has gotten better yet but when Bush was in office everything was going well and now that Obama is in suddenly Republicans are recognizing all our problems and its Obamas fault? I'm not even a democrat or republican by the way.
Who the fuck is Susan Boyle? Oprah, Tiger, Obama & soccer player David Beckham are probably in the Top 5. While America doesnt collectively give a shit about soccer, the rest of the world does for some reason. If you go old school then MJ, Ali & Pele are probably somewhere in the Top 10 as well.
I brought this up to a couple girls yesterday and their immediate answer was Madonna. Funny, none of us thought of her though.
I thought about Madonna, but I would definitely rank Obama, Oprah and Jordan above her.
And Sean you need to read before you comment, were were talking about who is now the most famous person since Jackson is dead. Nobody is arguing old school, he was definitely #1.
Oh and there are plenty of things that are are getting better with Obama, not that he gets any credit. But one example is that scientists are no longer handcuffed with the stem cell research limitations President Num Nuts imposed during the Galactic Empire years.
no that is not a good thing! We don't want dat dem dere science being brought into society!
Here is a newsflash. Nobody gives a shit about stem-cell research while North Korea and Iran are preparing to have a major attack on the United States that is going to make 9/11 look like a picnic, while Obama is making treaties with the Russians to make our defenses weaker. Perception is reality and Obama is perceived by our enemies as being weak on defense and are planning on taking advantage of it. And they were our enemies long before Bush was in office.
Also, nobody cares about stem cell research when the vast promises that Obama made to the middle class is not going anywhere. 90 + percent of Americans make between 30 and 90 Thousand dollars and not a single piece of legislature has been introduced to help these people. Over 98% of houses are not in Foreclosure, 92% of the population is employed, and over 85% of the population has health insurance. It seems like everone is struggling, though, but the 2%,8%, and 15% gets all of the attention from Obama. I'm all for helping out people who can't help themselves or had unfortunate situations come up that they can't control, but what about everyone else. Over 1 Trillion in new spending and none of it is going to the vast majority of Americans. I know a lot of people, including a lot of people on this blog, who work hard, have jobs, pay their bills (at least most of them), and are struggling worse than people who are not working, or even trying to get a job and milking the system for all its worth, that Obama has created. It is not a step in the right direction when people can get better benefits and make more money by not working than they can by working hard and trying to better themselves.
I can't believe I got sucked in to this again. But I couldn't stand it anymore. It was supposed to be about fame.
I think the millions of people with cancer care about stem cells? Maybe Jerry's Kids do too? The Autistic, no? Cause for them and thier families thats a real tangable problem right now. Its not a make believe scenario thats gonna happen a hundred years from now. Thats the problem with most people in the country. They act irrationally base on fear created by those in power. There is no boogy man coming to get you. Nobody's blowing anything up! At some point we have to grow up and stop acting like spoiled, ignarint, 2 yr olds with too much pride! "preparing for a major attack that makes 9/11 look like a picnic" Ha, where do u people get this stuff from?
Remember the cold war? If JFK had the same mind set as you Reg we would all be under piles of ash now! But were not cause he was a thinking president you know one who likes to read the newspaper, and isn't legally retarded! There's always gonna be nuts out there but you can't just go blowing them up all the time, sometimes you have to actually talk! AHHHHHHH! REPUBLICANS MAKE MY HEAD HURT! (for the most part)
I'm not a historian, but I read quite a bit about Kennedy and his presidency. I'm pretty sure he should not be the poster boy for foreign relations. In fact, he put the U.S. in its most vulnerable position ever, to the point where launch codes were generated to attack the U.S. from Cuba.
I try not to be a fear monger, but I do worry that Obama's perceived weakness towards defense puts us in the same vulnerable position that we were in with Kennedy.
Regs take into consideration the source from which you get the opinion that foreign nations see Obama as weak.
The overwhelming consensus from legit newsources say that Obama has installed more confidence around the world in this country.
And saying that a big terrorist act is coming this way is the biggest cop out ever. You could say that anytime, no matter who is president. All it does is install fear. I also beleive that 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, so did terrorists perceive us to be a weak nation because Bush was in office?
Diplomacy is a step toward the evolution of the human race. True some people in this world are just plain nuts, but that does not mean we have to copy their behavior. Using our troops should always be the last resort. They're not toys, they're soldiers with families. Something that has been overlooked for far too long. At least now they're fighting in the correct country against the real enemy. And the only reason that is even going on is because Bush neglected Afganistan all these years and let it build up again. It's just part of the unbelievable mess we are trying to clean up after Bush's 8-year keg party.
Really man you got to start and realize just how bad he fucked this country up. And how many families he destroyed. He's one of the worst people in the history of this country and the world.
