Who's Your All-Time Team?

Posted by Keith G.

The Ultimate Combo

I consider myself an avid baseball fan and enjoy watching and reading about baseball. However, it just doesn't feel the same when baseball is really the only viable sports option on TV. Sportscenter and the Radio shows can only show so many Albert Pujols and Manny highlights and yak about Brett Favre and/or Michael Vick.

I came to the conclusion baseball is losing a lot of footing in America when it can't really support Sportscenter or talk radio. I honestly hear a lot more about NFL free agency talk on the radio then I do about baseball. Also, I've noticed a lot more gimmicks to create interest in reading about sports and/or listening on the radio in the last month.......cause let's face it baseball just loses interest. You can only talk about the Roy Halladay update a few times before I get bored.

The most utilized gimmick I've noticed lately in some play on combining the Movie's and Sports......thus I thought the Dojo could jump on board. I particularly liked this one.

Who would your starting Five Be from all Sports Movies.

Breakdown:

1.) Coach
2.) Captain
3-5) Teamates

Mine.....would be as follows:

1.) Coach: Mickey (Obvious Choice)
2.) Capt. Crash Davis- (Bull Durham)
3.) Rocky Balboa
4.) Bobby Boucher (WaterBoy)
5.) Jimmy Chitwood (Hoosiers)

That is my humble list....Curious to hear the Dojo's.

Perhaps you're just not much a baseball fan there Big Fish. I love baseball, it's my favorite of all sports. And if you listened to Mag Dog instead of the fools over at ESPN, you'd get plenty of interesting baseball talk other than the main stories.

Just because your Brewers are so insanley boring, that does not mean baseball is losing it's footing in America. Sportcenter can't support anything because it sucks as a television program. I can watch the MLB network all night long. That channel is fantastic. Any big moment that comes up in a game, they go right to it. I'm not thrilled with all of the personalities they have, but their format is unmatched.

And I really like your idea on the all-star movie athletes team.
My all-time movie athletes team would be:

Coach Norman Dale
Asst Coach Tony D'Amato

Players:
Willie Beamon
Paul Blake
Luther 'Shark' Lavay
Ricky Vaughn
Willie Mays Hayes
Clifford Franklin
Daniel Bateman
Kelly Leak

And of course, Play by Play man: Harry Doyle

You might be right Koko.......I think I will have to give Mad Dog another shot....just cause you keep pumping him up.....but if I detect some WWF style amped up fake rant of his he's done to me for good.

Love the List.....Who is Bateman?

I also strongly considered Kelly Leak but I just think he is too combustable a player for my team. My team is built upon hardworking glue guys who are all about the team.

Coach: Mickey
Captain: Rocky
Team: Billy Hoyle
Sidney Deane
The Hanson Bros.

Jimmy Chitwood was not all about the team. That guy let his teammates flail around in the wind until he decided he was good and ready to do what was right for him.

Hmmmm, maybe you're predisposed to liking those types of players Keith? Remind you of anyone?

Anyway, definitely give Mad Dog another shot, and don't give me any WWF bullshit. His rants are 100% genuine, he's been doing it for 20 years.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Deane and Hoyle.

Don't listen too mad dog keith! He sucks. All he does is scream and its annoying!

Chitwood was the ultimate teamate. When Coach Dale wanted to alter the game winning shot away from him...he didn't flinch...the team had so much faith in him...they pleaded Coach Dale to give the ball to him....and being the ulitimate team player he guaranteed he'd make it. That's it.

He was struggling with his life after his father died.....don't you think a high school kid should get a little bit of leeway at that point. Not to mention he single handedly kept Coach there....by supporting him cause he knew that was in the best interest of the TEAM...not himself.

Mad Dog will get a shot....reviews to come.

Oh Yeah.....Breaking news....Brett Favre Retires..........

does teen wolf count? I want him on my team too!

Yeah good argument, I guess Chitwood is an ok guy. Still though, took him long enough to make a fucking decision.

I really hope Favre stays retired this time. I think this is finally the end.

Dave, if you can take Teen Wolf then I want Steve Nebraska.

Of course Teen Wolf is available.....Great Call GOAT.....Although you must beware he is a ball hog and not much of a team player......he might cause chemistry issues.

Coach: Hayden Fox (coach)
Asst. Coach: Nate Scarborough (longest yard, burt reynolds)
Players: Crash Davis
Sunshine
Billy Bob (from varsity blues)
Shaq
Jake LaMotta (raging bull, al pacino)

Sorry J-Dub I must hereby veto your entire team due to the grave mistake of listing Al Pacino as Jake LaMotta.

You and me man, we're fucking done professionally. Fuck'in ass.

Ok, I had to chime in.

Coach - Lou Brown

Asst. Coach- Duke (arguably Rocky's BEST trainer. He trained Rocky before Clubber-Rocky 2, Drago-Rocky, and Rocky-Mason Dixon)(Mickey trained him to one upset title victory and let him get complacent after that one victory. I'm just saying...)

captain- Jake Taylor - everything to everyone.

Player - Teen Wolf (Taylor would whip him into shape, but there is no denying the talent)

Player - Cartoon Darryl Strawberry- (Simpsons) 10 for 10 with 10 HR in the springfield softball championship. Nuff Said

Player - Charles Jefferson (Forrest Whitaker in Fast Times)

Special Mention-
First Pitch - Queen Elizabeth II

National Anthem - Enrico Pallatzo

Hey Look it's Enrico Palazzo!!!!

Regs...Great Team......I think the best one yet.

Duke....He was a great teacher and his emotion made Rocky IV just that muuch better....No Pain! NO Pain!

That was my major problem with the latest Rocky Balboa movie. Duke's 6 lines were out of this world. If they would have utilized him more instead of Stoops or lil Marie the movie would have been great. "Let's Build Some Hurtin Bombs that will rattle his ancestors"....Duke was really the only highlight of the Balboa and they only used him for like 2 minutes.

Keith you're letting me down man. You can't flip flop on a Rocky movie here. We both agreed that the Balboa movie was very underrated. Yes they definitely should have used Duke more, that was my major critism of the movie as well. But to say that it was the "only highlight?" What about the "how hard you can get hit speech." They played that at Yankee Stadium and they came back to win. It was incredible.

That's definitely some of the best writing of the series there. Also the fight between him and Dixon is probably the best technical fight of all the movies. My favorite is still Drago but the Dixon fight was great.

Balboa was a very good and underrated film, which you agreed with me once upon a time. What happened?

Keith G. said...

My bad....I don't want it to sound like I didn't like Balboa......just thought the Duke scenes were some of my favorite and it left me wanting more of him in the movie.

Yes, I agree...I did enjoy the movie and the Rocky speech was a classic as well as the Fight.

Sorry If I mis remembered my love for the movie. I wrote the last post rather hastily and incorrectly.

Thank you for pointing it out to me Koko.

Koko said...

Ok, you were making me nervous there man. I think you need to watch that movie again s.t.a.t.

Oh and Rob, I love your list. Cartoon Daryl Strawberry is classic and of course Enrico Palazzo.

I needed something to occupy my mind because I walked in on an old lady in a Hospital psych ward masterbating completely naked in a room. It was not pretty.
