Random Takes to Create Firestorm

Posted by Keith G.

OK….so the dojo is lacking so I am throwing out a few random takes to help everyone make it through the day. At this point any take should start a firestorm between Regs and Koko but here goes:

Did anyone read in today’s newspaper how the budget deficit is causing Orlando to cut EMT positions, fire fighters, and something like 6 Ambulances from rotation and when firefighters go on vacation or call in sick they won’t replace them. In article it denotes how Ambulance arrival times will be lengthened and they will seriously evaluate if it is even necessary to send one and/or if you need a ride once they get there because of the cost. WOW! Now human life costs are being crunched into the budget. I know DonJuan will weigh on this one. I mean I can understand if the expressway’s grass gets a bit overgrown cause they can’t afford to cut it every week or if there is a broken street light that does not get repaired right away…..but to force EMT’s to decide who deserves an Ambulance ride and who does not is getting pretty scary.

Then, there was another article detailing how the state must decide on improving certain health care areas or allocating money so they can upgrade to broadband internet in outlying areas like Umatilla. They even ha d a quote from some poor lady who said she has to check her email at work cause her dial-up is just too long now. I know I skimmed these articles, but that just seems absurd to me. I was confused if it was gov’t funded broadband or if it meant bright house and or Comcast don’t have cables laid there…..maybe our resident tech guru Koko can answer that question. Anyways, to me that just seemed crazy to even debate……healthcare reform or Faster Internet?????????

Also, Does anyone not love the Cardinals pitching staff mustache unification group? What a great idea. How come this is not utilized in pro-sports or any realm more often? I mean if somebody started a sideburn manifesto for the Dojo members or Goatee I would be on board to support my brethren in a show of team unity. Wait a minute…..maybe we should start one???? Any ideas? The playoff beard demonstrated in Hockey would be cool….but quite frankly I’m not sure I’m capable of one……so let’s rule that out.

Well, there is some fuel for the fire on this beautiful Tuesday afternoon.

Umatilla?Really, who cares. They get nothing. All you got out there is cows and grass.

We cannot touch education or healthcare. Thats that.

Florida is fucked up. Our state government has been shitty forever. Crist is at least paying attention to education but health care is worse than ever so that stuff about budget cuts does not surprise me. I hope that article is an exaggeration, I can't believe they would make EMTs decide whether someone "deserves" a ride or not. Juan, what say you?

The broadband thing is something I can comment on. Obama has a long way to go to fix all the probelms with this country and I wish he would get more aggressive, but I think he's the kind of person that uses patience as a tool to get more done over the long term. However he is undeniably the most progressive president ever with technology.

That whole Digital TV crusade he was on to get all analog switched over, was for a real reason. The grand plan is to free up airwaves for free internet. You can imagine just how much companies like Brighthouse and Comcast love this. Switching over all the analog tv signals to digital freed up tons and tons of air space for information. Obama would love to use all that free space to provide free internet to those who are in need of it, especially in remote areas. It's a great idea but it's not going to be easy, every organizaion who makes any money off internet service is going to fight it. Hopefully they will come to some kind of compromise.

As for team consolidation, how about team mullets?

Mullets are nice....but timely....I think Sideburn chops like Koko used to sport could be nice.

What everyone needs to know, first of all, is that the cutting of EMS funding and other programs were a result of the passing of Prop 1 in the last election, which gave tax breaks to home owners. the money saved had to be made up somewhere. I don't know how efficient ems has been and how much time is wasted, on the clock. Only Juan would know the answer to that. I do know that there are way too many cops than we need. They sit around and do nothing all day and collect money. Lets get rid of some of those idiots.
I'm against anything visable for a team unity excercise, but I would be in favor of team sack piercing.

Really?! Did you know Orlando is #18 in the USA for murder rate? Welcome to Disney World! Seems like someone got a ticket for speeding or did you forget to buckle up, its the law.

most of the cuts (specifically in orange county and the city of Orlando ) have been given to employees that were hired within the last year or so.
Thankfully my department has not been truly affected as much , only cuts like less overtime available and merrit increases have gone down but what line of work hasnt been affected.
The economy affects more so the future hiring of staff ( wich will be pretty non-existant for the next couple of years) than jobs currently.
The effectiveness on how us in EMS respond has not been negatively affected compared to years past cause many more stations were built in the early millenium in order get a more rapid response.
Some cities actually have a cop shortage tho Robby and with jobs out , crime is in !
