Do you ever make mini deals with yourself and/or the Fates? I know we have all made pacts with God at some point and usually after he comes through we fail. I think I should have gone into the ministry to make up for all the pacts I made with God when I was in College. Please God, get me out of this jam and I will never do it again?? Please God let the Cop just give me a warning and I will never drink again? Or when you blow by that cop at 90 MPH.....what are you saying in your head?
Or pacts with yourself. I'll just watch two more quarters of this game and then do my homework. I will down two cans of jolt and study all night. Maybe just one more game of Madden and I will make up for it by studying extra hard.
More interestingly pacts with Fate? For instance, I was called to my civic duty of Jury duty today. I was dreading it all week as you have to be downtown at the Courthouse checked in by 8 AM. It's one thing to wake up for work and be at a meeting early but going into the courthouse to hang out with a bunch of strangers and for no real purpose sounds downright brutal. Interesting side note but every person I spoke to the last few days when I mentioned I had jury duty most responded with the statement..."That's Why I don't Vote." Hmmm Is America losing voters to the threat of Jury Duty? If so are they voters we didn't want anyway? Sorry...back to my story.
Well, last night before calling the number to see if I must report I wrestled with the idea of would I trade a fantasy loss to Richard and Team Snarf to get out of Jury Duty? I actually battled back and forth in my head and weighed the pros and cons before finally coming to the conclusion I would in fact trade a fantasy loss to be excused for Jury duty. I made the deal so to say. Then I called the number and to my delight I was Excused!!!! Thus, I had to endure the Monday night game knowing I pretty much cost myself a win. This is not to say Team Snarf didn't win our ugly game on his pure skill and effort, it by no means takes away from his win. However, just curious to hear the dojo's feedback on if they would make a similar choice. Now, also you must keep in perspective this was about as critical a game as gets in Lombardi's Party. I was playing a division rival and I am in the middle of the pack at 4-4. It's not Like I am Blaze and already out of it or like the GOAT and have some cushion to absorb a loss or two. Did I make the right choice? Would you make the same one?
Personally, I firmly believe in these faiths/pacts. I think Brett Favre circa 2010 is simply the afterbirth of all the Sports pacts I made with somebody back in the day begging Brett to bail my team out....and most of the time he did in a miraculous way. What pact did Richard and Koko make with the fates before the Helmet Catch?
Anyway, as I sit here enjoying my coffee at home in some ways I am happy with my choice...but I know in the long run this might cost me a shot at the playoffs. Did I make the right choice? I think I did......or does it not even matter considering I have the worst set of WR's in the history of Fantasy Football. Either way...I am going to sit back and enjoy some Coffee Time at home not at the courthouse....Make it a good one Dojo!

Forget about switching to decaf, you need to switch to de-self importance.
Even if there is such a thing as fate and/or god, do you really think they would spend even the smallest calculable amount of time on your fantasy football league?
And let's even buy into that. So you were willing to trade a fantasy football loss. And what did you trade it for? Getting out of jury duty. What an incredible asshole you are. Never mind the thousands of kids who died of disease and hunger last night, Keith doesn't want to wake up early.
Order in the court! I object to the DOUCHEBAG in the jury.
Just for that, you should now be selected for the next 5 jury duties you are up for and lose every single game you have left. Serves you right for thinking you have the power to trade fates in the first place, and then on top of it trading it for something as trite as a fantasy football win or loss.
And don't worry no animals were harmed in the wicken ritual that Rich and I performed before the 2007 NFL season.
Well, except for that one dog that Keith now has to walk/carry at 3am.
Sorry dude, but it was worth it.
Oh and just a side note, people that say they don't vote because of jury duty are even more clueless.
They also select people from driver license lists.
I makes deals with myself many times per day. little things mostly. I think of them kind of like self improvement techniques.
Its not like I think that there is some God who cares about that extra piece of Halloween candy that I ate. But with a trade-off of 10 extra minutes on the treadmill, it pays off in the end.
A lot of times it is fate, but nonetheless, the trade-off is usually always beneficial to me in some way. For example, "If you please let Hines Ward score 6 points, I will promise to make 2 extra cold calls today" works to my advantage. (by the way, Hines scored 7 and the calls have already been made to 2 Hospitals that i have put off calling for 3 weeks)
Nothing wrong with doing this, but i didn't expect you to get so deep Keith
oops, nice grammar and spelling.
I know someone who can fix your dog problem keith, give me a call. Lol!
