Let's Party

Tiger Woods is Ready....are U?

Maybe I was out of town and that is the reason I don't feel all swept up in the fact that Orlando is about to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals. I tried to get myself excited for this fact, but in watching Games 1 and 2 I felt like I was just watching another NBA finals....every once in awhile I would remember that technically......this is our one and only local Professional sports team and they are in the NBA Finals.........Where "Amazing happens" by the way.

Or maybe it is the fact that I have lived in Orlando for over 5 years now and I think I only know one real Magic fan (Nice Job Sully!). I hope I have not offended anybody...but my tally is still at 1. Anyways, I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and embrace the Magic's Amazing run. I guess if this doesn't say this is big time I don't know what does. I read this in this mornings paper:

Orlando City Council voted Monday to keep the booze flowing an extra hour after Tuesday and Thursday nights' games. The temporary extension will allow bars in Orlando to serve alcohol until 3 a.m. instead of 2 a.m., and to stay open until 4 a.m. They also have voted to allow Gators Dockside bar the same rights after the Cobra Kai complete their championship season later this month.

City leaders called it an "economic development" plan, as it helps businesses to separate patrons from their money.

Mayor Buddy Dyer doesn't want any sloppy drunks, though.
"We've extended the hours of celebration by one hour ... but we ask that everybody celebrate responsibly," Dyer said.

Okay Mayor......that is the plan. Give us an extra hour to drink and we won't get drunk (wink wink). I mean it's one thing to say we have extended happy hour an extra hour.....but it's another thing to say we have extended bar time an hour but please don't get sloppy. Has anybody here ever NOT been wasted at bar time? Maybe it's just me but I cant really recall many times in my life I was sitting in a bar at 2:15 AM not drunk thinking I wish they could extend it a little while longer so I can get another diet coke.

Well back to my attempt to discuss Orlando Magic basketball. Don't get me wrong I love basketball and get pumped for the NBA finals every year. But I would have thought if the Local team was in it the finals would have felt different. Maybe it will...I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping the excitement builds over the next day.

So, some of my questions after a few games. Did I miss something while I was gone and JJ Reddick turned into a premier player? How come he was playing so many minutes last game when he was clearly not producing?

When did Rashard Lewis turn into a clutch player? He was lights out......but what's up with the extended goattee? I remember I attempted one of those in college....looking back it was pretty lame and ugly on me but oh well....we all do those things. Rashard is welcome to experiment as well....only He is a multi million dollar athlete on TV....on one of the worlds biggest stage......is that how he wants himself to be remembered?

How come most people get up and shave for work but these guys that are on TV....HD TV to boot don't bother shaving. I'm not complaining I'm just guessing that if I was going to be on a world wide broadcast I would think one of these guys spouse, family member, agent, TV exec would subtly hint "Hey I bought you this new great Mach III razor...you should try it out." Does Pau Gasol really think he looks cool with a wooly mamouth look?

Anyways, just my five cents..........Go Magic!!!!

Gasol is in the top 10 ugliest of our species. He should be called the big sloppy. Lets go watch the game somewhere.

If they don't win tonight, the only thing Dyer is going to get at 3am is angry drunks in the street mumbling, "Fuck'in Kobe."

It is very naive though to extend last call an hour and then also say, don't get drunk. Also, I'm sure more police will be used because of this and more DUIs will be given out through entrapment. I'm sure that cop that runs plates while we all sit at Gators is just iching for the Magic to win.

It's ok though, it all helps the city right? What a fuck'in joke.

I personally think it is pretty lame the way people are acting about the Magic making the finals. Almost like people have been waiting their entire lifetimes for this moment and it is finally here. Keith is totally right about the "real" magic fans.
People here are just looking for any excuse to party (not that there is anything wrong with that)and this just happens to be this month's excuse. Call a spade a spade and just admitt it and everything would be ok, but for these so called fans to keep pretending that they were with the team the whole way is just pathetic.

Thanks Keith. Want to talk about excited? Look at the Facebook post I put up today!! (if you have fb) I should put the link up here as well. Dudes, I am stoked. I have tickets for all 3 Finals games here!!

I do have some friends that are true Magic fans! Not as many as I'd like though. Remember the problems the Rays & Marlins are having with fan base? Most people are from somewhere else so they already have a fave team. I moved here in 1988. I didnt even follow the NBA. I remember a time when I didnt even know there was a professional basketball league. I already had my fave baseball & football teams. I played basketball in my driveway. All of a sudden, I had a team to follow. I remember my best friend would call them the Tragic their first couple years of infancy & I hated him doing so. Still do, if anybody says that.

My dad shared season tickets w/ a friend for about 7 years. From maybe 1990-1997. My dad was a real fan until during the 96-97 season, Penny Hardaway being the team leader, led a coup to fire then coach Brian Hill with only 33 games left during the season. Dad dropped the season tickets after the season b/c of Penny's coup. Dad finally went to his first game since then when we went to Game 3 vs Cleveland. I've been asking him to go for a few years now.

Back to the extended hour of drinking, I think I have the reason for it. The games start at 9pm & end roughly around 11:30 or midnite. By the time you leave the O-rena (if driving) & park closer to the downtown bars, you could be looking at almost 1am before you even get into the bars. Last call would be 45 minutes later. Why would you even bother hitting the bars if you're kicked out 45 mins later? Sure, there will be people really happy bout the extra hour. Atleast people from the game will have a place to go to celebrate the Magic victories after the game if they feel the need to drink til 3am. Hell, I shouldn't be, but I might there.

Go Magic!!!!!!!!!
