A Hearty Congrats

Posted by Keith G.

Well, here it is a quick NFL Musing and a big congratulations to our loyal Dolphin fans out there. At the beggining of the year, Mikey, Koko, Rich, Regs, and Myself would have felt like our teams had an undeniable route directly to a far run in the playoffs.......Well, I don't know about Regs since he was not very fond of the Brett Favre Trade (more on that later) but nonetheless The Giants, Pats, and Packers looked like solid picks to make it deep in the playoffs.

Well, A throttled ACL and the Pats season takes a nasty curve. The Pack suffers some big injuries and proudly claim the greatest 6-10 team of all time. And the Giants.........Well what do we say about the Giants. They lose Strahan, Usi, and Plax yet they keep pluggin away and still have a legitimate shot. However, you can't lose a playmaker like Plax that requires that much of attention from Defenses and expect to make another miracoulous run.

The point of my post was to congratulate Fins fans on an incredible turnaround and point out this is the reason the NFL is so wildly popular. Anything truly can happen in the NFL. 1-15 one year..........don't worry. 13-3 one year..........doesn't mean anything the next.

Chad Pennington a noodle arm with one team......and now is arguably a legitimate NFL MVP Candidate. Jason Taylor the Fins only legitimate player last season..........We don't need you Parcells says and Taylor has a brutal year and the Fins defense did not miss a beat. Wow...........Well good luck to the Fins this Sunday.

Also, no word yet on how the Playoff starved Fins fans have scooped up tix but I guarantee it is not as bad as Vikes Fans. Check out this post from profootball.com

On Monday, various Vikings fans took issue in the comments with our decision to point out the fact that 20,000 seats remain for Sunday’s playoff game against the Eagles.

Some thought that it was misleading to suggest that the availability of so many tickets on the first day after the clinching of a playoff berth might result in a local blackout of the game.

But, as the Minneapolis Star Tribune points out, the threat of a failure to sell out the Metrodome is real. The problem is that a whopping 45 percent of the season-tickets holders opted not to buy playoff tickets.

Forty-five percent.

Wow.

Vikings V.P. of sales and marketing Steve LaCroix says that some fans were reluctant to buy tickets until they knew for sure that the team would make the playoffs, and that as of Monday sales were brisk.

Indeed, since the season-ticket holders would have received refunds if the Vikings hadn’t qualified for the postseason, why wouldn’t they have protected their ability to sit in the same seats they occupy for every home game?

Weak............

I give a lot of credit to the Dolphins, not only for turning a 1-15 team into a division winner but also for completely buying into Parcell's and Sporano's system.

When an entire team buys into what the coaches want to do, it usually ends with good results. That is if the coaches know what they're doing. But the Dolphins do not have to worry about that. It will be very interesting to see how they perform against the Ravens. I would not be surprised at all to see the Fins come away with a win.

I'd also like to point out that everyone wrote off the Giants miracle post season last year as a fluke and a lot of so-called experts picked the Giants to finish last in their division or at least not make the playoffs this year. Well no further proof is needed. No matter how far the Giants go this year, they have already solidified themselves as one of the best, if not the best, team in the NFL over the last 2 years. Even after Strahan retiring, Shockey leaving, Osi going down and Plex shooting himself, the Giants are the #1 seed in the NFC.

And yeah Keith your right, losing Plex definitely hurts. You can't just replace him, but you can adapt and the Giants have proven they are very good at that. If they needed another miracle run to get back to the Super Bowl I would say they were in trouble, but they do not need that this year. They do not have to play 3 road playoff games at Tampa, Dallas, and Green Bay. They just have to win 2 home games against teams coming in that are NOT better than them even without Plex. I'm not saying it's a done deal by any means, it's still the NFL. But the G-Men have an even better shot at a championship this year than last.

That would be sweet. The Manning Bowl. Can you imagine the commercials?

Yea.....I gotta admit Coughlin is a hell of a coach. But just wait and see the wacky NFL can break your heart just as fast as it will get you to marry it.........this road seems possible for the Giants and watch a team like the Cards come to NY and beat them or something crazy like that.

There was one thing that I realized while watching the Jets collapse and that is that I am not a Jets fan, although I pretended to be. I wasn't that upset at all. It was more intriging than anything. The one thing you can say about Favre is that he is NEVER boring. That works for and against him. I'm actually a little happy for the Dolphins. You couldn't write a better subplot. That's why I watch football, for entertainment.

My picks for the Super Bowl are:
Baltimore and Carolina. "Bold men say bold things" Teddy Roosevelt

The only thing keeping Favre interesting right now is all the DRAMA. I don't watch day TV, so you ladies can keep your soap opera.

Let everyone keep thinking that the fins are finally done, again..and again..If this year has taught us anything it's that anyone can lose a game...sh*t happens..anyone can win a game..except the pride-less lions and once your in the play-offs, it's whose momentum locomotive can't be derailed and what sleeper stud is going to emerge and win the Super Bowl MVP..Great Sport
