Down But Not Out

Posted by Keith G.

In the highly anticipated Rematch with league rival the Beatdowns the Cobra Kai had an opportunity to make their run at our first division title. However, the Beatdowns were hungry for revenge after our dramatic extra inning win over them in the last meeting. Roundhouse Reger had a meeting with an Olympic trainer to evaluate his shoulder so we were missing his bat and solid play at the hot corner. However, as always the Cobra Kai were ready to adapt and overcome.

We came to play and our Defense was solid right from the get-go. Mad Dog was at his usual crafty veteran play on the mound baffling the Beatdowns murderer’s row of hitters and holding them down early. Mikey Lemieux has been playing like a man possessed the whole season. His bat has been hotter than one of JW’s Cougars and his glove is even matching it. I don’t know if Mikey is playing for that new free agent contract but I hope we can lock him up. Capt. Tucci had the OF ready to go as he knew it was going to be a long night as the Beatdowns usually rain down terror on opposing Outfields. Lemieux had the play of the night in the 4th inning when he went barreling into the Left Field Fence and snagged the ball out of the Dark knight like Batman coming out of nowhere and went barreling into the fence, he escaped with some scratches but was back for more.

The Beatdowns were also attacking the Infield as Johnny Blaze and his crime fighting crew had their hands full as well. The Beatdowns were spraying frozen ropes at the Infield and Blaze and crew were absorbing the hits and making plays. Blaze and Big Matt connected on some inning ending plays to stop their rallies. Big Daddy Gutierrez was back patrolling the right side playing solid D and swallowing up Blaze’s tosses his way at 2B. Koko, was his usual solid play at 1B and had his Clark Koko cape on eating up their throws his way.

Our Bats came out early, but in the end it was too little too late. DonJuan had the controversial play of the night as just as we were rallying to tie the game JuanDiggler was rounding 3rd heading home. However, the OF recognized Juan as the man who placed the ancient Ecuadorian curse on them last game that left them a player short. Thus, the rocket armed OF unleashed on Juan and drilled him in the head leaving him momentarily dizzied and stunned. What happened next is still debatable as Blue had no mercy for Juan and our team and claimed he missed Home plate after crossing it after absorbing the brutal blow. Regardless of what happened the out slowed our rally and Big Daddy was fined after the game for calling out the umps on the poor call.

JW continued his swan song play as his Tomahawk Chop is heating up as he showing the Red Bug Lake fans what they will be missing next season when he is preparing to make the transition from swinging the Tomahawk chop to flying a Tomahawk Chopper. We posted 7 runs, But the Beatdowns put up 9 so we missed our opportunity to battle for 1st Place. However, we square off against the 1st Place Rampage with an opportunity to claim 2nd place this Friday night @ 8:30 Under the Friday Night Lights.

Of course, we regrouped at Gators and attacked the pitchers with reckless abandon once again. The Team had to keep an eye on Mikey after his sworn hatred for the Gators mascot as his #1 person on his Punching Hit list. Nothing ensued as we put back a new league record of 64 pitchers this Friday. Great Job Guys!
