Legend Walks off into the Sunset

Brett Favre Announces his Retirement

The Legendary Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre has decided to hang up his cleats today. It is a sad day for Packer fans across the globe as well as Football fans everywhere. As a sure fire first ballot hall-of-famer and arguably one of the greatest QB's in the history of the game, Favre will undoubtedly be remembered for his gunslinger mentality and durability.
I always knew this day would eventually come but never wanted to accept it. Just like back in school when you had a big exam looming down the line, you always put off studying and just went out drinking and had a grand ole time....until one day you wake up and bam!
I honestly don't know how to react and will probably be much more depressed when the season actually starts and it is more official. But for now, I choose to celebrate his phenomenal career rather than mourn his retirement.
Brett is the only 3 time MVP in NFL history and lead the Pack to two Super bowls, won one, and almost made it back this year. Favre has started every single game for the pack since 1992.....think back to what you were doing in 1992. I don't even think JW was out of diapers yet. Favre replaced The "Magic Man" Don Majkowski and never relinquished the reigns of QB and captured the hearts of packer fans everywhere when his first completion of his Packer career was a deflected pass to himself. Mind you, Favre then lead the pack to their first playoff game since 1982......that was a 10 year drought for the pack during my formative years....they sucked before that.
Brett lead the pack for the next 17 years including my prime drinking years winning his first super bowl when I was a sophomore in college. To say that Brett Favre is my hero and had a tremendous impact on my life would be a huge understatement. I even traveled to Kiln, MS one year as a pilgrimage to my hero and had a beer in that one stoplight town at the Broke Spoke, a local redneck bar Brett grew up at.
Brett's list of achievements and records go on and on. But the biggest impact he had was with his laid back country boy mentality that said the game, the team, and the will to win above all was my favorite attribute of his. I cried after they won the super bowl, and after they lost the super bowl, I cried during the Monday night game on Dec. 22, 2003 the night he threw for 399 yards and 4 td's the day after his pops "Big Irv" passed away and I'm sure some tears will roll when the season begins and it all becomes a reality. But for now, there is always hope that he will change his mind or that I can just pretend it is not real.
"How Lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard"
