One of the best returning skits on that show. Funny as hell!

I didn't get the Tom Hanks acting stupid part. It wasn't really a parody. Did I miss something?
Burt Reynolds and Sean C were great.

Will Ferell........just great.

Land of the Lost.....Koko any thoughts?

Also, Can you guys please note the location change on the previous post from Clementine Beach to the Yacht and Beach Club located on the Boardwalk.....

What's up Regs. I don't know if you've ever seen the previous Celebrity Jeopardy sketches, but the main point is that now matter what celebrity it is, they're all incredibly stupid on that show. Also, Norm as Reynolds and Hammond as Connery were always staples on that sketch.

Most of the time it's the SNL crew imitating celebrities but every once in a while the actual person would come on and act like a moron as well.

Also if anyone caught it, when Hanks is testing out the pen/microphone he says "sibilance, sibilance," and you could hear some of the crowd react. That goes back to the time Hanks hosted SNL with Aerosmith as the musical guest back in 1990. They did a Wayne's World sketch where Hanks played a roadie for Aerosmith and as he's setting up the mics he keep saying "sibilance, sibilance," to test them for hissing.

That movie looks funny Keith but I'm not sure I'll see it in the theater.

it just seemed that every character had a general theme, ie drunk, womanizing, mother, ect. But Hanks didn't. I guess I hadn't seen any other of these skits where the person played himself.
On another note. When I was younger, my hair kind of looked like Chaka from l.o.t.l, so all of my friends called me Chaka for like 2 years.

Yep, I love that skit. Sean is doing Trebekoko's mom...over and over.

Did you actually remember Hanks saying "sibilance, sibilance" from 90 or did you find out that tidbit of info?

Keith G. said...

I remember Hanks saying it as a roadie for Aerosmith......

Those were the glory days of SNL.

Till this day you can walk up to nearly anybone and spurt out one-liners from those days and everybody know exactly what your talking about.

Da......Bears........

Shhhhwwwwwwinnnnnnnnngg

Now......If you said a one liner to me from an SNL from the last 5 -10 years I and most of the free world would struggle with recalling what you are referring to.

My Question.....and I know I have debated this before but oh well.

Is SNL not as recognizable today as it was back then because?

1.) Just not as good a cast.

2.) With all the other media options SNL is not as edgy and/or just a viable time slot

3.) The SNL I'm referring to happened to air during my youth which studies find you remember and recall more fondly things from your formative years

4.) The Writers are not as good as they have so many more avenues nowadays to work at rather than SNL

5.) I'm thinking too much into this........and Prosthetic Johnson needs to contribute once in ahwile!!!

As soon as he said it I remembered that Wayne's World sketch. And you can hear some of the audience members cheer when he said it as well.

For me, the reason the Carvey, Meyers, Sandler years are the best is because that's what I grew up with and because when Comedy Central was in it's adolesence, it use to play reruns of SNL like nonstop. I think I've seen every episode from those late '80s early '90s years.

To it's credit, SNL has been better in the last couple of years. Andy Samberg will be a star, Amy Polar may not reach superstardom but she'll be around for a while, and you're starting to see Bill Hader in more roles.

Also it looks like Tina Fey will be this generations Adam Sandler and use the last 2 casts in just about everything she does. That will keep them working for a while as well.

Keith, I not only remember yuor thoughts and questions but it has been on my mind all the time. I actually started to pay more attention to SNL skits in the past months, via tV and the Dojo. I think SNL is still a great show. Lorne Michaels is a genius. However I feel it those not have the same impact as when we use to watch it for because of some of the reasons you mention.

"The SNL I'm referring to happened to air during my youth which studies find you remember and recall more fondly things from your formative years"

"With all the other media options SNL is not as edgy and/or just a viable time slot"

Plus:

I feel the music acts suck now and some of the comedians. Also the black kid from nickelodien is on it.

"The black kid from Nickelodeon"

Whoa, somebody's been taking sensitivity classes.

My thoughts on Keith's rant is this:
-Most of the time SNL would scout stand-up comedians from all over the country and offer them the opportunity to be seen nationwide in a much larger capacity. Most of the most popular stand up comedians were the ones who pushed the envelope the farthest when it came to race, sexual orientation, women, ect. Today, this is not as accepted, so there are fewer people becoming stand-up comedians and therefore reducing the pool of people for SNL to choose from.

lol......koko.....that's what happens when you move to Boston. Good point Regs.

I get your theory Regs, but do you have any statistics on the percentage of people going into the stand-up business?

SNL is the equivalent of a Big Fish story. The cast gets funnier as their fans get older.

This show has had the biggest love-hate relationship with it's fans in the history of TV. The now so-called golden era with Carvey, Meyers and Sander was totally panned by the critics at the time. That show was slammed by everyone. Even the people who are fans of those cast members now.

Same thing happened to Eddie Murphys cast as they were compared to the original 1975 cast all the time. And again with Will Ferrell's cast which is now looked at as a really good time for the show. But everyone remembers how bad the show really was when Ferrell was doing the cheerleader sketch. Because a lot of the cast members go on to be huge stars, their sketeches are funnier when you go back and see them again.

Same thing will happen for this cast as they go on to bigger things, it's an endless cycle with this show.

You do have a point with SNL not getting the creme of the crop though. With all the other outlets in media today, SNL is not a stand-ups only option. The pool has been thinned with the internet, comedy central, HBO, etc.

By the way if any of you get a chance to see Jim Jeffries new HBO special. It's insanely funny. He's one of the edgiest comedians to come along in the last 10 years.

I have another opinion for you to ponder. I'm never home on Sat nights to watch SNL. As we get out of high school, we have more things planned on weekend late nights that stretch our tv time thinner, so get to watch less. Maybe I should DVR it.

Koko, no reaction to Sean doing Trebekoko's mom? Really?

Sean did you just refer to yourself in the 3rd person?

I should ban your ass for a year!
