The Last Dragon Remake?

Posted by Koko

Wow, it's weird how you don't think about something for a long time and then all of the sudden it's back in the forefront.

I haven't seen the #2 greatest all-time good-bad movie on our list The Last Dragon in many years. Then last night there was nothing on the hi-def channels so I surfed around on the SD channels and there it was. On one of the obscure Showtime channels, The Last Dragon. Could it be that some Showtime executive reads the Dojo and decided to put the cult classic into the programming rotation? I can dream.

Anyway it was just as magnificent as I remember it. Not only that but now I just read that they are possible getting ready to film a remake with Samuel L. Jackson as Sho Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem. I doubt it will be as good as the original but Jackson is a perfect choice for that role.

Also, I will be screening the original film as the post Super Bowl movie at the party this year. For anyone that has not seen it, you will instantly fall in love with it.

Where is the Love?

Ladies and Gentleman the top vote getter among QB's for MVP...besides the MVP.

Dolphins fans were in a tizzy a few weeks ago on how awesome a season they were having. Last to First....Hosting a home playoff game.....Pennington for MVP!!!

Then one blowout loss and they came crashing back to earth.

But, this one really confuses me and I guess really puts into perspective what a joke the NFL pro-bowl is. Brett the Jet declines yet another invitation to the pro-bowl as I'm sure Pennington sat patiently by his phone waiting for his invite. Nope, the call went to Kerry Collins.......Kerry Frickin Collins???????

Not only was Pennington passed over for an original Pro Bowl selection (Manning, Favre, Cutler), and first alternate (Rivers), but also second alternate (Collins). So, the guy who had more MVP votes than every QB in football (not named Peyton) combine is not even the 2nd alternate in the AFC?? Makes sense?

Poor Chad just can't catch a break.........DonJuan or Blaze, do you have anything to say about this????

A New Beggining

Posted by Keith G.

This Guy is Officially a Cobra Kai.

Change--Just as our nation is about to embark on a historical change in office, one that should bring hope back to our beleaguered nation so too did a New Season of Softball present to the Cobra Kai’s a chance to embark on our first league championship.

The Kai’s lost our legendary utility fielder and Tomahawk chopping JW as he embarked on his own change and vow to trade in his cleats for some of Uncle Sam’s boots to protect this great nation instead of the plate. Well, Capt’ Tucci was excited to unveil our newest addition to the Cobra Kai’s none other than double S himself Captain Smooth, Sean Sullivan.

“I was excited to take the field as a one of the legendary Cobra Kai’s Friday night as this was a lifelong dream for me to fullfill, don’t ever let anyone tell you that dreams don’t come true…..I mean we live in Orland for blimey sake’s……and everybody knows that Orlando is magical and your dreams really can come true. I was so excited I crapped my pants, but I didn’t want to change because it kind of kept me warm” Said Sullivan during pre-game warm-up as he was introduced to the Red Bug lake media.

Well, trying to stay hot ended up being the primary goal of Friday night’s game as frigid temperatures caused the Kai to come out rusty and cold. “It was colder than a witch’s tit out there, and it threw our game off a bit” said Koko as he tried to stay warm in between innings by snuggling with Big Daddy Gutierrez in the dugout.
At the start of the night, the Cobra Kai sat atop the Red Bug Lake league with an unblemished record. On paper the Habenero’s looked good, however on this particular Friday night, they were even bigger. So, on the card was a big matchup of the league’s two top teams with a history for all the marbles and beer league bragging rights. Well, this game was not our game to be, but next game we will be ready I can assure you of that” said Capt. Tucci after the game.

Well, the Habenero’s jumped out to an early lead capitalizing on the Cobra Kai’s rusty skills and cold hands as we had not taken the field of battle together in almost a month so it took awhile for the team to get settled in. Strike First, Strike Hard, and No Mercy…..well the Habenero’s did just that. “I think they were sucking on a special Habenero sauce that kept them warm and jacked for the game, I want to find out what that stuff was” Said Mikey Lemieux after the game.

The Kai’s bats were a little rusty as well as we put together a few rallies to bring the game close at 9-5 but we never were able to get over the hump. DonJuan kept his on base streak alive at 87 games by bulleting a shot over the infields head early in the game and Double S made his debut to the league be known by slicing a single in his first at bat with the bases loaded and thus announced his coming out party………no not that coming out he still hasn’t admitted to that yet…..but that’s another story.

The Habenero’s solid fielding was the main culprit for the Kai’s cold bats. “We hit the ball hard and well tonight, the ball just didn’t take the right bounces for us as they were fielding machines eating everything up that we hit there way” Said Johnny Blaze. This couldn’t have been a truer statement as the gold glove Right Center Field for the Habenero’s robbed nearly every Kai member of a solid hit.

Well, the team has some work to do and is excited to get back under the lights this Friday night to begin our quest at a championship season. The team will be missing Capt. Tucci who will begin his journey to fulfill his ultimate goal of binding his love for Lady Kai Allison this weekend. Chaplain Greiveldinger will also be missing as he must prepare himself to send off Captain under the Lord’s guidance.

As always, the team came through at Gators. We swept in and picked up right where we left off last season and broke our team record of 88 pitchers this past Friday night. Well, good luck this Friday against the “Chosen Few” under the Friday Night Lights!

Reger Rant

Posted by Regs

Ok, I know the last post by Koko was fun, but I had to get something off of my chest. This week Major League baseball announced that their new class was going to be Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice. Upon first glance, which one of those doesn't belong?

I grew up during the time when both of these guys played. Baseball was my favorite sport. I had season tickets to the Brewers and listened or watched every away game. I also was addicted to "strat o matic baseball" "Pursue the Pennant" and later "Tony Larussa Baseball". In short (I know,"too late") I was a baseball and a stat junkie.

NEVER ONCE IN MY LIFE DID I EVER CONSIDER JIM RICE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO A HALL OF FAMER. What a fucking joke. How watered down can a hall of fame get when they choose mediocre outfielders.

That was my initial reaction, but I decided to do some fact checking to see if maybe, over time, Rice was able to accumulate some great career numbers. Upon further review, it is worse than I thought.

Career Batting Average - Under .300
Home Runs-382
RBI- 1451
World Series Titles- 0

It gets worse, but I don't want to bore you guys with all the details. In fact, Rice is not in the top 50 in any statistical category. None!!!! Oh wait, he is 3rd all-time in the number of times he grounded into a double play. Sorry about the oversite.

He also did not win a single World Series in 16 years and only appeared in 1. In fact, his post season average was only .225. He also has 0 gold gloves.

The only impressive thing I heard about him is that he was an 8 time all-star. People act like that is a statistical category, when, in fact, the fans vote for 100% of the players in the game. Boston happened to have more fans at their games than most teams, so low and behold, they had more all-stars.

I hate it when hall of fames' water themselves down like this. It insults the accomplishments of the greats before them and I sincerely hope they stop doing this. At least the journeyman 3rd-4th starter Bert Blyleven didn't get in. If he did I might start a riot.

The best "Good-Bad" movie of all time?

Posted by Koko

I know I haven't posted a movie review in quite sometime. That's because I honestly have not been to the theater in months. There's plenty I want to see, I just haven't gotten around to seeing them. Now that the G-Men are out of the playoffs, I'll have more time to get to the theater, but for now I wanted to bring up a certain type of film that I think is just as important as the ones that win Oscars. "Good-Bad" films.

Last weekend, right before leaving the house for Mikey's B-Day party, I got caught up in the disastrous masterpiece known as "Road House" starring Patrick Swayze. Even though the plot is ridiculous, the acting subpar, and the reality factor out the window, I could not stop watching it even though I've seen it many times before. Like a horrible car accident on the road, you marvel and say, "How did that happen?" Something entrances you to these types of films. We all have our favorites and I want to know yours.

Give me your top 5 favorite "Good-Bad" films of all time in no particular order. After all the submissions I'll review and rank them 1-10.

Here's my 5, if any of mine are in your list try to give me something different so I can get a good pool of films to choose from. I'm sure there are great selections I'm forgetting about.

Now remember these are not just bad movies. It's those films you see on the cable guide, usually on TNT or USA network that you know are bad movies but you end up turning on and watching the whole thing time and time again.

And please NO SEQUELS!!!

1. Road House
2. Over the Top
3. The Last Dragon, aka "Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon"
4. Side Out
5. Tango and Cash

Well Then......We Know what we must begin Training For

Posted by Keith G.

Wow.......I did not realize what we are missing out on. Let's begin Training and start expanding the Cobra Kai's dominance to another endeavor.

Anytime this Quote comes from the Winning Team, I don't even have to read any further cuz I all I have to say is "I'm In"!

"The key today was me getting real drunk and my partner not missing, and us coming out and proving we're the best," Hamilton said shortly after winning the top prize with Michael Popielarski, 25, of Massapequa, N.Y.

"The winner, Ron Hamilton, 25, of Brentwood, N.Y., preferred liquor to beer, and said he got ready for Sunday's play by drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels."

Hamilton said he and his partner — who form the team Smashing Time — met three years ago at a bar in Long Island.

"We've been unstoppable ever since," he said. Hamilton said he planned to eliminate his personal debt and pay part of his mother's mortgage with the winnings."

The World Beer Pong Championship....Wow.

UnStoppable??? Hmmmmm I think that sounds like a challenge to the Cobra Kai Nation.

Read the article print it out hang it on your bedroom mirror and use it as inspiration like Rocky with his Drago pic in Rocky IV. Cue the Music.

SausageGate

Posted by Keith G.

Breaking News Story.

Ahhh let's revisit this great breaking News Story from a few years back when Randall Simon assaulted the Italian Sausage. Why you might ask?

Because Simon recently had a work out with the Brewers and might actually join the team? I'm sure there will be an upheaval in the Milwaukee area and protests from the local Johnsonville Brat Workers union 348.

Also, did you know that Simon settled with the 19 year old girl whom was the Italian Sausage out of court and part of the settlement called for Simon to send the then 19-year-old and her family to take a vacation in his native Curacao for a whole week.

Anyways, I also love this video because it shows how different life in Wisconsin is. Check out the seriousness of this breaking news story. The local media treated SausageGate like the Caylee Anthony case.

SausageGate........Sounds like something Rich and JW would be involved in.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Posted by Keith G.

I have always been fascinated by Intro songs at sports stadiums. Nothing gets me amped up more than a good intro song(except a Fly-Over...those make me wet my pants). I'm not talking about the Hip-Hop song that is just cool but a well thought out dramatic entrance song. Not too many teams nowadays utilize this to get the crowd in a frenzy. I'm sure most stadium operators just pop in Jock Rock or whatever that one CD is and use that without utilizing more creative uses. Now, I don't know the logistics on this maybe you need permission to use copywrighted music or something so that may complicate things.

Obviously, the Chicago Bulls of the Jordan Era set the bar for entrance songs.

For some strange reason I fondly remember the Sacramento Kings use of AC/DC "Hell's Bells" as a great entrance song at the height of the Vlade Divac Era also.

Personally, If I ever owned a professional basketball franchise the song I would use to introduce my team would be Dire Straits "Money For Nothing". I would shut off all the lights and every drum beat would be a spotlight turning on and off showcasing a member of the team. And then when that awesome guitar solo rifted off I would have fireworks blasting and the team mascot jettising down from the ceiling.

Anyways, the reason for my post is that I ran across an article debating on how the Miami Dolphins chose the Theme song from Scarface as their entrance music to last Sunday's Playoff game against the Ravens.

This certainly gives credence to my theory that entrance songs play a big part in getting not only the crowd amped but also the players. Well, here are some highlights from the article and why the paper says the choice for the entrance song layed the foundation for the Dolphins demise.

"In case you’re not aware (though I doubt that’s possible), ”Scarface” is one of the most famous gangster movies in the history of American cinema and, just in case you’re wondering, it’s also a favorite of quite a few Ravens players (I know this for a fact). So on top of playing a theme song from a movie
where the main character rises to fame and falls back to earth (really hard), they choose a song that’s immediately recognizable and loved by a pair of Ravens who you don’t want to amp up anymore than they already are.

As a side note, didn’t anyone stop to think and compare before choosing the song?

- Tony Montana comes from nothing ... the Miami Dolphins came from nothing (1-15)
- Tony Montana earns respect and admiration from his peers ... the Miami Dolphins earn respect and win back the love of a fan base that suffered for several years.
- Tony Montana takes out a hated rival without proper preparation for what’s to come ... the Miami Dolphins embarrass the New York Jets without proper preparation for the defense they’re about to face.
- Tony Montana goes out in a memorable ambush ... the Miami Dolphins go out in an ambush led by Ed Reed

So yeah ... if you ask me, I really think they should’ve thought things out, because there are plenty of songs to roll with that don’t serve as an omen for the downfall of a memorable rise to power"

Curious to hear other Dojo readers thoughts on great entrance songs.

Just for JW

Posted by Keith G.

Wow.........here is a website to make JW's life alot easier.

For those who have an STD and don't have the guts to tell a previous sex partner, the Florida Department of Health has a service for you. It's free and anonymous.
Now you can use e-cards to deliver a far less cheery message: I've got a sexually transmitted disease, and you should get tested.

Just go to inspot.org/florida and pick out a card.

And, that's all I got to say about that.

Question???

Posted by Keith G.

Why would a mildly successful College Coach interview for an NFL job if his employer told him that if interviews for this job he would be terminated?????

According to ESPN.COM Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski has been told he will be fired if he interviews for the head coaching vacancy with the New York Jets, which is scheduled for Monday, according to sources. Despite the threat from athletic director Gene DeFilippo, Jagodzinski plans to do the interview with the Jets, the sources said.

How many of our loyal readers have heard of Jagodzinksi before????? I know Reger will be very familiar with him. With all the great coaches out there why would Jagodzinksi lure Brett out of Retirement?

Well, I'm not Chris Mortensen but my guess is he knows something...................and that something I think is the fact that the Jets brass want...check that NEED Brett Favre to come back and they think Jagodzinski is just the guy to lure Brett back.

Well, for one Him and Brett are buddies. Jagodzinski was tight ends coach for the Packers from 1999-2002 and offensive coordinator for the 2006 season before BC came calling.

Just my little hunch but if you see Jagodzinki hired I think you can cue the Rocky music as the summer of Brett will most assuredly mean he is looking for a reunion with his buddy and looking forward to going out on top.

I give it to the Jets Brass they really are throwing all their cards on the table and putting everything on Brett. Whether this is the right decision or not it is obviously the path they have chosen.....................and I promise this is the last post about Brett until after the Super Bowl................speaking of the Koko Bowl (I have officially renamed it in honor of Koko's legendary Super Bowl parties) sorry to Fins fans for that brutal loss yesterday. Curious to hear if you stand by your hero Pennington still?????

Breaking News.......to Start the Year.

Posted by Keith G.

This just in.......legendary QB Brett Favre is mulling retirement. He may or may not play again next year. This is unbeilavble. Brett Favre might just hang up the cleats????? No......Say it aint so.

Jets Fans enjoy the offseason of will he or won't he. However, for some strange reason I don't think Jets Fans are as excited to have Brett Come back as Packer fans were last year. The saga continues but somehow I beleive the only people that want Brett to come back is the owners cause quite frankly he sells tickets and jerseys.

I think this is the first time in history from I can recall that a teams owners truly have ticket sales and jersey sales in mind over the opportunity for a decent team to win. Let's face the Jets have some quality players and could do something............oh wait if Brett does not come back who is their QB? They got rid of Pennington............do they still have Vinny Testaverde to rely on?

Anyways, I'm doubting Brett is coming back. He had an atrocious end to his season and he didn't want to be in NY anyways. And check out what his teamates are saying about him. Does not sound like they want him back either.

Appearing on a local radio show Tuesday, Jets running back Thomas Jones said Favre should have been benched during his three-interception performance against the Dolphins on Sunday, according to The Daily News.

"We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win," Jones said in the interview. "The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality. If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality.

"The reality is, you throw interceptions, I'm (ticked) off, I don't like it. You know what I'm saying? I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it."

"There was a lot of resentment in the room about him," the anonymous teammate told Newsday. "He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone."

Resentment??? Towards Brett Favre......how can that be? I guess it would be like if we brought in a big name talent to our team and they never came to gators. But I mean he is almost 40 years old and this is not politics. How can you condemn a man for not taking out his teamates to dinner.

Well, he did get his Coach fired and another sure fire hall of famer (Bill Cowher) said he does not want to coach the Jets because of Favre.

I guess we can only wait and see how this turns out.......looks like another fun off season. What I am hoping for is a Rocky like turnaround. Where Reggie White calls to Brett Favre from beyond and he gets a calling from God to save football and New York. Then Brett goes into a rigorous off season training program with John Elway (sans Apollo training Rocky) and Brett comes back next season with a vegence. He takes his players on hunting trips and dinners at Applebee's where he wins their hearts and then they make a dramatic run to the Super Bowl to defeat the Green Bay Packers.

Cue the Rocky Music........I cant wait

Happy New Years!!!!

Posted by Keith G.

I hope everyone had a Very Happy New Years. As we progress through the years it is hard to gather everyone at the same time and thus reason #4 why you have to love the dojo.

Anyways, In all seriousness I hope everyone had a Safe and Very Enjoyable New Years. I know I toasted to everyone and made sure to have a drink in honor of each and every one of you.

Speaking of drinks.................You have to check out this great police blotter from Chuck Barkley's arrest for a DUI the other day. Not a great way to start your political career but definitely won't ruin it.

Unless, you tell the cop you ran the stop sign and that you were in a hurry to get a blowjob from some hooker that gave you the best one you ever had in your life last week. Oh yea and you had a loaded gun in your car.

I like Chuck, he is entertaining in between halves and games on TNT. He tells great stories, however sometimes he annoys me when he plays the race card so quickly all the time. I realize sometimes he may be jockeying to get one of his friends a job but when you continually place emphasis on race and hiring you only further digress the cause rather than help it.

Well, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Do you see a Chuck Apology where he says "Yea I was stupid, I paid my fine and I won't be a knucklehead again....I Hope." Or Can you see a tear filled Charles making a formal apology with his wife by his side and saying he won't put himself in this situation again and he wants to focus on stopping other people from suffering his fate.

I don't see the latter unless he really wants to get into politics. Well, I guess we will have to wait and see.
