Winter of Discontent.
In our modern world we have become a nation of ADD stricken Instant gratification sycophants and seem to be immintitnetly and constantly wanting more quicker and faster yet inevitably leaving us ultimately unsatisfied. Right there is the reason so much Prozac and Quaaludes are sold on a daily basis…..or whatever home remedy you chose.
For Instance look at Urban Meyer. The Guy was a God at UF won two national championships In six years and restored a once proud university back to major glory. However, after one tough year he walks away to hang out with Stan Van Gundy and his family…….errr I mean his own family. Yes, walking away to spend time with your family is very admirable but one has to wonder if he would have done it if UF was not in tough shape and he didn’t have the same drive to rebuild UF as he did to build it originally. Success is the first step towards failure and failure is the first step towards success….it happens over and over again in history. Rome rises to greatness…..than it falls.
You will never see Joe Paternos or Bobby Bowdens again because that is not the way this uber eccentric world works anymore.
Will we ever see a Brett Favreian streak again ? Take respected Colts Announcer Bob Lamey…….well don’t know if he is still respected but this is what he said last week intended to be off air but caught on air:
Lamey’s rant was talk of NFL defenses having “figured Manning out” and that the Colts should start looking for his replacement in the 2011 draft. Lamey also expressed that he thought No. 18 should be benched in favor of Curtis Painter. That’s right, Curtis Painter. Manning has been horrible lately and thrown 11 picks in three games.
This race for bigger, better, faster can bring you down just as quickly as it can raise you up. Also, see the New York Yankees. The Red Sox have absolutely out-gunned the Yankees this off season. Acquiring Carl Crawford and arguably the best hitting First baseman in baseball Adrian Gonzalez juts the Sox waaayy ahead of the Yankees whom haven’t done much but overpay for an aging SS. The Yanks are paying for the past while the Sox are preparing for the future. Yes, the Yanks will most likely land Cliff Lee and if they don’t they will force some team to Choke on overpaying him that it will absolutely cause the collapse of the team until they have to trade Lee to the Yanks in two years and beg them to take them off their hands……Yes I’m looking at you Texas…don’t swallow the bait.
Whatever happened to building something? Rocky Balboa worked his tail off for many years just for one shot that he had no idea would ever come. And now…he is being inducted into the Boxing Hall Of Fame…..Kudos to Sly as it is well deserved.
One last interesting tidbit from the past week. Anybody hear Pete Rose’s interview describing Joe DiMaggio’s Man-thing????? Great Read:
Pete Rose spoke with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia and told a wild story about a trip he took to Vietnam in 1967 with baseball legend Joe DiMaggio.
Rose explained that when they were in the middle of the jungle, DiMaggio said he needed to take a shower.
"And the only way you can take a shower, Mike, is they have these big bamboo bags, like, and somebody's got to get on a chair and pour the water and pull a rawhide thing and the water comes through and the guy takes a shower," Rose said. "So I saw everything that Marilyn Monroe saw."
Rose went on to say that the best way to describe the former Yankee is that "he was a penis with a man hanging from it."
I have heard Richard described in this way from JW and Mikey....but I can't confirm that.
Have a Great Friday

(Shaking my head)
Wait, what?
No Brewers news? I feel cheated.
You know Keith, I love to play a little game with your posts. It's call, "How many times can Keith contradict his own point." I would also take a substantial bet that you spend now more time discussing the Yankees than any other team you claim to root for. Doesn't that concern you at all? Just come out already and show your pinstripes. You know you want to.
You discuss the pitfalls of one American vice while exemplifying another. Urban Meyer walks away from a boatload of money to spend time with is family and of course he gets barbequed for it. Never mind it's ridiculous to question his motives. You don't know him or his priorities in life. Its just part of the "never happy" syndrome. People cannot accept anybody's word anymore. Everyone has to have a hidden motive. Well when you apply that to everyone it's just as naive as believing every single word.
I think the guy is just happy with what he achieved professionally and now he'd like to make sure he doesn't miss out on an important time with his family. I'm sure he'll coach again someday, but there's no reason at all to believe he's leaving UF simply because he had a bad year. In fact it's probably way harder for someone as competitive as him to leave on a down year than leaving after winning a National Championship.
You then also say you'll never see a Brett Favre type legacy again but then once again disparage your secret favorite player Jeter as aging. Well, aging is part of the package. If you're going to have a legacy, the player is going to have to get old. So we'll see just how much the Yankees overpaid Jeter when he's hitting number 3,000, 3,500 and someday 4,000. I know your praying to God every night on your 3am Lucky walks that Jeter will break Roses record as a Brewer, but that's just not in the cards for you guys. You know, just like winning of any kind.
And by the way, I'm still waiting around for that big Yankees downfall you keep talking about. Call me crazy but I thought a downfall actually involved, you know, a downfall. Last I checked the Yanks have made the playoffs in all but 2 of the last 16 seasons, won 5 titles and will field a championship caliber team once again in 2011.
You have a really weird interpretation of impending doom.
Heeehee , Lucky walks
BRUTAL.
Urban Meyer will coach his fag boy Teblow in Denver.
Koko, Why do you take this commentarys so personal??
I wasn't lambasting the Yanks once again. I was just making comments on news of the week.
I admire Urban for walking away for his family....I was simply pointing out it was a case where you want to put your stake on a legacy so quickly.....and if he hadn't seen the impending fall of UF if he would have stuck around.
He did it last year....but he might have thought we have a lot of talent....maybe I should come back......if he did it for his family kudos....good for him.
Also, I was making my point about Jeter. The Media and other talking heads like our blog like to jump on Jeter is too old etc..etc...when we should be applauding him for his loyalty etc...
Lastly, it's not too hard to make the playoffs when you outspend every TEAM By 10 fold........again not an attack just a statement. The Yanks will struggle to keep up with the Sox this year....but They should make the playoffs.....I mean Tampa just threw in the towel.
But overall I was making a point how hyper sensitive our "microwave" society is as you like to call it and how people have to have such quick reactions......especially when checking out Richards package.......
I love it Keith, you're like the kid in grade school that was the obvious agitator in the class and when the teacher called him out, he's always, "Who me? Not me, I didn't do it."
You take shots at the Yankees over and over and over and over and over, then actually have the juevos to say, "I'm not lambasting the Yanks." Perhaps you're not even conscious of it anymore. I think you have Yankee-Hate Turrets.
And Urban did not say he was retiring last year because he wanted to spend more time with his family. It was due to what he thought was a major health issue concerning his heart, which was later verified as throat contractions, a much less serious condition.
To me it's way harder to leave on a down year, especially when he had the top recruiting class last year. Not to mention leaving all that money behind. Until he proves otherwise, questioning Urban's character in this decision is unfounded and petty.
And once again you’re deflecting. You did not argue that it's easy to make the playoffs for the Yankees; you argued some kind of fall that's awaiting them because of the money they spend. The Yankees have been doing business like this since the Steinbrenners have been in charge. I think you can safely say it's a proven model by now.
Besides, they just let the Sox overpay for Crawford (although I do not disparage them for that, he's a really good player) but it's convenient how they are not monsters, or what's wrong with baseball. No, they are simply "preparing for the future."
Seriously, you don't even know you're doing it.
I've been in gainesville for most of the week and have spoken to the quarterback's mom today about meyer's departure. The concensus amongst the fans I spoke to, local talk show hosts who know urban, and John Brantley's mom is that Meyer realized that he didn't have leaders on his team and his freshmen and sophomores were great athletes but didn't want to work hard. Couple that with the fact that he had lost his right hand men each of the last 2 seasons and it was not a good situation. he didn't have it in him to do the work neccessary to rebuild.
Saying you want to spend more time with your family is a copout because people can't question it and it sounds admirable. If he wants to spend more time with his family, then do it. Nowhere is it written that a college coach has to spend 100 hours at work every week. Stoops doesn't. Spurrier definately doesn't. A lot of coaches are 9-5 coaches.
Regs, what are you doing with Brantely's mom? :-)
Koko, you like to dissect everything Keith says...especially when it comes to the Yankees...and then lambaste Keith.
I didn't necessarily think the Sox overpaid for CC. Sure it's a shit ton of money. It does two things, helps their team and at the same time, hurts the Rays.
Urban might go visit his boyfriend in Denver. Family is a copout that can't be questioned. I was shocked he left again but listening to a lot of media types, they weren't shocked he left again.
See you Kai guys tomorrow night.
The Red Sox have outgunned the Yankees?! Adrian Gonzalez is the "best" hitting first baseman?! Derek Jeter was "overpaid"?! The Sox are wayyyy ahead of the Yankees?! There is so much bullshit in that post I’m going to have to call a plumber to fix my computer! Anyone have the Mario Bros. number?
Your a stats guy right Keith? Lets look at some stats......Adrian Gonzalez (a lifetime .284 hitter) has hit over .300 once in his 7 year career. He hit .304 one year, WOW!I believe the guy at first in New York is a little bit better, along with many other first baseman around the league (ever hear of Albert Pujols).
Derek Jeter's contract is more then just for his play on the field. You also have to look at it from a business perspective (which is what the Yankees are so good at). The money he brings in via tickets sold/concessions, merchandise sold both in the stadium and abroad, advertising, attention, etc, etc. To be a superstar of his caliber anywhere is one thing but to be that in NY is invaluable. The Yankees make tons of money off of him. Not too mention all the revenue he will possibly bring in for his run at Pete Rose! And oh yea....HES STILL THE BEST ALL AROUND SHORT STOP IN TH LEAGUE!
Let’s look at who is really ruining baseball....THE RED SOX. 7 years/ $142 million for Carl Crawford? FOR CARL CRAWFORD!!!!!! A man who hit .256 vs. lefties the past 3 years (I'll get to that in a minute). A career .296 hitter with no more then 19 homers in a given season (not too mention he's no spring chicken at 29). A man who unlike Jeter is not a superstar, is not worth his contract's weight in returning revenue, a man who EATS BABIES! (That last one may or may not be true) 7 years/$142 million for another lefty along with the lefty Gonzalez? Along with the lefty Ortiz? Along with the lefty Drew? Another lefty when their hated rival and a team with whom they many times come within a cunt hair of the division title with, a team whom they play 16 times a year and almost certainly will have to see in the playoffs! A team who will be throwing out a rotation filled with 3 of the toughest lefties in baseball! This is what the Sox needed to compete next year? They have no needs in their abysmal pitching rotation? Spending that kind of money for superstars and players that will strategically help your team win or a treasured veteran with the potential to break a major record is one thing. But to throw it at a Carl Crawford?!....DISGRACEFUL!!! Now every "around" .300/15 homerun hitter is going to expect 20 Mil a year? That is what ruins baseball. Some one needs to take away the keys to Fenway from that Brian Cashman wannabe, Theo Epstein! Maybe he can go to Milwaukee? I hear they use monopoly money and pay their players in beer and sandwiches so he can't do much damage there.
Meanwhile the Yanks are using their money on the best pitcher in the game and as usual keeping their "lifetime Yankees" with whom they have built and won all there championships around. Making sure they locked up Rivera and Jeter before going at Lee shows just what kind of organization they are. Those are not the actions of a cruel and ruthless business organization unconcerned with the dignity of the game!
I'm out of order?.....YOUR OUT OF ORDER! THIS WHOLE DAMN COURT ROOM IS OUT OF ORDER!!!!
Now I wouldn’t expect a Brewer fan to understand any of this. I mean you’re most loved and highest paid Brewer is the fucking mascot! (Again, that may or may not be true) The word "overpay" has never been mentioned in the same sentence as the word "Brewer/s"
The Sox will be lucky to keep within reach of the Yankees this year with how far the "EVIL EMPIRE" has pulled away. There is no future in site for the Red Sox. If those Bostonians are hoping for glory, they may want to invest in a flux capacitor and a Dalorian!
So while you may have merely just been commenting on the past weeks events Keith...you sir, once again, on the subject of "AMERICA'S TEAM"............. have misspoken!
P.S.
The whole Brett Favre thing is just getting sad at this point.
Oh.....and the Mets are gay!
Well,
That's the fucking end of this conversation.
