So, I know its been awhile since this Blog had life and I had a self imposed boycott for undisclosed reasons, but I am back. These are some issues and observations that have been going on that I feel need to be addressed.
- I really think being a liberal is a disease that is passed down from generation to generation with diminishing returns every time it gets passed. I have a personal story here to back up my point. My mom has 5 sisters in her family. They are all very liberal (my mom is too). Looking at them, you couldn't really tell what their political views were. They seem fairly normal. However, they all have kids who have taken this liberal view to the next level. From dreads, to long greasy hair, to rings just about everywhere. They look like the typical crowd at an Obama rally. The problem...they are all total losers with no career aspirations. They grew up in a nurturing environment where anything goes. Their ridiculous looks were attributed to them "expressing themselves" and "finding their niche". Now, most of them are either unemployed or are spinning their wheels at dead end jobs. I'm not saying everyone is like that. Certainly there are plenty of sharp, professional liberals out there, but it seems like as generations pass, the left has become a little too left.
- About a year ago, I decided that I wanted to start investing in the stock market, because that was the "smart thing to do". To me, it seems a lot like gambling, so I was instantly hooked. Now, I am so mad at myself for doing this. There is literally no rhyme or reason for what stocks do on a daily basis. An example, I bought 40 shares of "Under Armor" stock at $80 per share. The stock had a 5 star rating and the company was doing very well financially. I bought it before the first quarter earnings were announced. When they were announced, the earnings had been twice what they had projected and they announced the release of several "game changing" products. Since that date, the stock has fallen from $80 per share to $54. This is with all good news!!! Fuck this shit. I'm taking my money out and going back to sports gambling. At least that is somewhat predictable.
- Now that football is back, I like how Philly has gotten all the "buzz" so far. For what? Let's take a look at what they have done. They signed 1 great corner(hats off), an injury prone lineman that the Packers didn't want, a back-up running back, a receiver coming off a microfracture surgery, a scrub back-up QB, and traded a great back-up QB for a much mailigned CB who has only played against the NFC West. Come on now! The Super Bowl champs return 20 of their 22 starters (DE,LG) and get the 15 players they lost to IR back. Can you guys say dynasty?
- I would have to say, that for all the criticizing that has gone on about Wisconsin sports over the years, I would challenge anyone to find a more dominating state this year for sports. We have the Super Bowl Champs (Packers), A division dominating basball team (Brewers), A Rose Bowl participant, who is fully stocked this year (Badgers), and 2 NCAA tournament teams who made the sweet 16 (Marquette and Wisconsin). It wouldn't even be a contest if the Bucks were good.
- The Cobra Kai needs to get back to its roots. We were at our best when the team was an extention of our families. We all got together frequently and we stayed together through thick and thin. Recently, the team has lost its mojo. I will take some of the blame because of family committments. But overall, we have seemed to be content by just piecing together a team. I think this fall we need to take a look at the roster and decide whether people fit the profile of a Kai. If not, they need to be replaced. I, for one, am ready to rededicate myself to the team and turn this ship around.
Peace out

I like this post Reger because I can tell that it's not a belligerent attempt at eliciting nothing more than a reaction. These sound like real genuine thoughts.
-You must know that the other end of the spectrum is just as bad, if not worse. At least someone on the far left is not dangerous. The far right harbors every racist, ignorant moron that somehow thinks they're "losing" the country.
And if you want to talk about looks, we'll I'd rather hang out with someone expressing themselves with earrings and dreads than a toothless half-wit that wants the government to stay out of his Medicare.
You see, I can paint with an equally broad and short-sighted brush too.
The left has become a little too left? If anything the left has become more centered. It's the right that has fallen off the scale. We have a Democratic President that is more a true Republican than George Bush Sr. and Jr. The entire right has been hijacked by extremist that have actually made their way into the House of Representatives and Governor mansions.
-I completely agree with your take on the stock market. It is nothing more than glorified gambling, especially when you're talking about short term gains and loses. If you don't have inside information, the only investing you should do in the market is long term. And even then you have to keep a very close eye on the trends, especially when you're getting close to retirement age.
-I listen to a lot of sports talk and many of the Philly fans have the same concerns. Just about all of them call up and say, "we haven't won anything yet" and they're concerned about their WR core.
I'm not nearly as concerned as most Giants fans about losing Steve Smith. That's a bad surgery he's coming back from. He may prove to be a great pickup but the Giants have a lot of great young talent at WR that should fit in nicely and a few coming back from injury.
I would still put my money on the Packers for best team in the NFC this year.
-Let's not get crazy though. Yes the Pack are the Super Bowl Champs, but the National League Central is not exactly a "Page 1" story. Make the playoffs and take out the Phillies, then you have some credibility outside of the NFL. Rose Bowl participants, and NCAA basketball is not going to move Wisconsin up any rungs.
-And yeah I agree with your last point as well. Our problem is not being able to field a team with a stable roster. It's not anyone's fault, as family and job will always come before a simple softball league. We just need everyone to be completely honest this season on whether they will be available for at least 7 out of the 10 games. And if not, that's fine, you can still be on the team and play when you can, but it should be as a utility player.
WOW! That post was filled with a whole-lotta-crazy!
thanks for the compliment. The whole thing came from a conversation i had with my Aunt a couple of weeks ago, talking about her son's new neck tat of some chinese symbal and her acting like she had no control. This kid is 31 years old, white, with dreads, a lip ring, nose ring, and now a neck tat to go along with his other 15 tats, who complains all the time that he can never "catch a break".
his brothers and my other cousins are the same way. raised in an environment meant to allow them to be free and express themselves, but where has it gotten them...Nowhere.
its just this attitude that drives me nuts. This whole "oh wo is me" attitude that people have, waiting for the government or somebody else to swoop in and save them instead of working hard and creating positive change for themselves.
Its the same thing with the almost debt crisis. I have always believed that the Government needs to utilize the money that they have better, instead of taking more. Its real easy for people to say "take more money from the rich people, that'll solve our problems", instead of looking harder at where the existing money is going. Its like a person maxing out his credit card and Visa saying "pay what you can, but in the meantime, we will increase your spending limit" No, that is not how it works.
The real problem Reger is there is no simple answer but both sides act like there is.
There are always going to be people on the left and the right who are hard workers and do everything they physically can to support themselves and their families. And the opposite is true as well. You are going to have lazy people who do nothing more than blame the system for all of their problems. That's just people, left, right or center. You can NEVER punish the innocent for the sins of the guilty, and trying to eliminate social programs that really do help millions who need it would be doing just that.
The whole debt thing makes me sick, because it amplifies how broken our system is. One side uses it as a hostage to pass their other agendas and the other side sits complacent without any real progress.
Yes you need to tax the rich, and Yes you need to spend more wisely. It's both. Those Bush tax cuts are killing the middle class, that's not an opinion. It's math and it can't be argued. And the wasteful spending is doing the same thing. Cuts do need to be made, but not on social staples that have worked flawlessly for over 70 years. STOP THE WARS, Stop spending Billions on stealth fighter planes that will never, ever be used. If you're going to spend, spend on education, spend on infrastructure, useful, tangible shit. Not this illusion of safety. None of us are safe, life is a gamble at all times.
This is a fact: If we just rolled the taxes back to before the "W" cuts, you know the Clinton era when we had a massive surplus, and cut the egregious, wasteful and bloated defense budget, we would have every penny we need to balance the budget and infuse the educational and infrastructure programs this country needs to be competitive again.
So maybe I contradicted myself, the answer is simple after all, but will we do that! FUCK NO! That's no fun, what would Fox News have to report about?
One of the problems, as I see it, is the liberal perception of the word "rich". They make it sound as if the only people who would receive tax increases are people who light their cohibas with hundred dollar biils and that simply is not the case.
He is talking about $250,000 as a starting point for the increases. I think most people fear that it is just that, a starting point. Who is to say that he will continue this slippery slope to 200K, or 150 K, or even 100 K? You are talking about a President who has changed his mind and views to the extreme in a very short time.
If I had a great year and was able to make 250 K, do you know what I would do? I would load up my kids' college funds and pay down my mortgage. Not exactly flying private jets to the Cayman's. I earned it and I deserve to do what I want with it.
Zac made a point a couple weeks ago when Obama and Boehner had their little discussion. He said that basically what Obama wants is for you to give more money to people like his biological dad, who is a complete loser.
You are right, it is not that simple. We need more budget experts in Washington, who know what they are doing. Right now that just isn't happeneing
There's no perception, it's simple numbers. We're talking about the same tax rates during the Clinton administration. No one is advocating to take half of the upper 1%'s money.
The country was doing quite well financially under those rates. These Bush cuts are ridiculous. When a company like GE takes in Billions and pays less taxes than I do, something is very, very broken.
And there you go again with the FEAR tactics. You see, you guys pull out that "slippery slope" thing only when it suits you. Right now the slope is teetered in the extreme opposite direction. Next, you'll say that since people who make more than a million shouldn't pay any taxes at all because they put more back into the economy. You see how that works. Anyone can take a scenario and spin it all the way to an extreme.
We're at an extreme right now, we need to bring it back closer to the middle, where we were in the '90's.
And once again, ad nauseum, the people making over $250K will still get the same tax cuts as everyone else, only the money over $250K is taxed at a higher rate.
I'm sure I will have to repeat that once again in the future though.
Yes we need wiser spending, but we also need the money coming in to get back to a fair rate. The middle class is being obliterated under these conditions.
And obviously these tax rates are not creating more jobs. That was the whole argument for them wasn't it. Give big corporations and rich people tax breaks and they'll put it back into the economy.
SO WHERE'S THE JOBS!
The theory is an obvious failure. We need to go back to a proven system.
I'm not against closing tax loopholes that allow high income people to pay a lower percentage, similar to what Reagan did in the 80's.
Also, lowering the corporate tax rate would entice large companies, currently doing 95+% of their business in the U.S. to actually have their headquarters here and pay taxes here.
And talking about the Obama slippery slope tax hike plan is not a fear tactic. What happens when the economy still sucks after taking more taxes from people making 250 K? The next step is taking more money from the next group down and so on and so forth.
I understand that we need to contribute to the Government in order to function properly. I'm not a utopian believer. What I'm not willing to do is give more, just because the Government wasted my money the first time around.
When the government cuts out all of the fat and gets their house in order, then come to the tax payers and ask for more if needed. You can't put the cart before the horse because right now asking for more money from anyone is the ultimate enabler to the government.
How about those Brewers? Ron Roenike is so far ahead of the game, by tanking the Red Sox and yankee series' to lull them into a false sense of security in virtually meaningless games in order to pounce when the games really count i.e. World Series. They won't know what hit them. BAM!
1- I'm really sorry you have so many loser's in your family. I myself have a few that always complain and want a handout. Product of the fucking system in this country. Always wanting a handout when they contribute nothing to society.
2- The stock market is a bitch. Can you say money pit?
3- Go Giants!
4- Being a Kai is something special. Its about family. Evict all the viruses and non-believers.
Welcome to the business world. Do you have 401K? You should look into gold and silver.....they are still up.
Regs, I would like to live in your realm, where big corporations actually give a high hard one about this country.
The tax rates are already at the lowest they've ever been for the top 1% and still we do all our business overseas. You know why? Because the rates in this country will never be low enough to equal sweatshop labor. So you can keep lowering the tax rate on that slippery slope you love to warn us about so often and keep putting money back in the pockets of big corporations and billionaires who then go and produce their products overseas.
What we need are stiff penalties for doing so much business outside of this country, not rewards which is what we have now.
Time to stop making laws and provisions that only benefit the top 1%. You will only create more animosity and resentment, which in turn leads to a giant gap between classes and higher crime.
