It's not called "the play." It's called "the flip".

Wow, good one Sean. I'm not sure anyone can ever top that unbelievably clever comment.

I think I'm going to have to shut down the site for fear that nothing ever posted again will be able to live up your incredible wit.

What's funny is that as soon as I saw that Jeter had won, there were 2 articles on ESPN ripping on the selection of Jeter because of his limited range. I don't just say things. i research before I write. What a joke!
Let's wait until a guy is at least the best player on his team before we start to talk about him as being an all time great.

No Regs you just repeat the stupid things others say. What a Maverick!

You have zero ground to stand on here. What's your argument besides the insane bias you have toward Jeter for whatever reason.

The Gold Glove is a very legitamate award. Maybe one of the most legit in sports. It's voted on by the coaches. No fans, no media. Also the coaches cannot vote for any player on their team.

Go look at the history of the award, it's given to the best at their position time and time again.

And in all the extensive research that you did, I'm sure you happen to uncover that Jeter lead all shortstops in fewest errors made and tops in fielding percentage. He even came in 3rd in that ridiculous UZR rating system that some think is so important but really measures absolutely nothing.

So next time instead of just regurgitating nonsense from what you seem to think is the infallible ESPN, actually look at the facts.

Also, please don't pretend to know who the best player on the Yankees is. You're out of your element. Unless you've watched every pitch thrown during every possible watched game, you can't know the team like a Yankee fan knows the team. I wouldn't just assume Prince Fielder is the best player on the Brewers because I don't know them inside and out.

Jeter is the most important and best player the Yankees have. It's been that way for 14 years. The only other player that you can even argue is Rivera.

Regs, you're out of your element . . .

Donny, shut the fuck up!

have you ever been "Baker Acted" Regs?

I'm not saying he sucks, but when you start talking about the all-time greats, you have to use a higher standard.

For example, you should at least have won 1 MVP award before you are considered an all-time great. It is not the hall of good, it is the hall of fame.

If at no point were you the best player in your league, you should not be considered one of the best. Sorry.

Seriously "The Baker Act" look into it. I think it might help.

So you disparage the Golden Glove but then herald the MVP which is so insanley diluted. Not only by who votes for the award but by the cirteria as well.

Jeter has been in the discussion a number of time, including this year. But he's always overlooked because of the "Yankees are too good" argument." The award changes from year to year whether it's the best player in the league or the most valuable player to his team. If it was the latter, Jeter would win the damn thing every single year.

Go look at all the former MVP's, do all of them belong in the Hall of Fame? Do you want to put Jose Canseco in the Hall? How about Mo Vaughn, Jason Giambi or Miguel Tejada? Ready to throw them in because of an MVP? If a player can have one really great year and the rest of his career just be average or good, then the opposite is also true.

Also, Manny Ramirez has never won an MVP, neither has Tony Gwynn. Do you want to take Gwynn out of the Hall?

This is an insane argument anyway. Regs how can you argue the best that has ever played at the position of shortstop should not go to the Hall of Fame? He already has more hits than any shortstop ever. He will go way over 3000 hits, has 4 gold gloves and counting, 5 rings and counting, what else would he have to do? Run into a burning building?

Actually I think he does that in the off season in between banging the Maxim Top 10.

Keep fighting the good fight Regs. All the way to the day Jeter is a 1st ballot hall of famer.

Regs said...

I'll give him first ballot "hot chick" hall of fame.

Best shortstops in history:
1. Ernie Banks
2. Rogers Hornsby
3. Cal Ripken
4. Ozzie Smith
5. Tie Robin Yount and Jeter

That's as objective as it gets.

Can we please also add an asterisk by his stats in the late 90's due to probable steroid use? Check his power numbers in 1997 compared to 1998 and 1999. HMMMMM. Pretty fishy. 10 Home runs and 70 RBI's to 24 Home runs and 102 RBIs. Are we supposed to believe that everybody else was doing them and he wasn't?

He obviously never used steroids. Jeter's body composition never changed at all (and I know about that stuff), and his stats never jumped that far off his career averages. He also hit 18 homers this year, 24 in 03', 19 in 05', 21 in 01', 18 in 02'. He averages 17 for his career and has no odd jumps off that average any year he has played.

Regs said...

I will accept that response. Good discussion Goat. I was just trying to stir the pot.

I heard Yount was a flaming Homo and a Democrat!
