Loyalty or Preference?

Posted by Keith G.

I love to delve into the mindset of people and recently read a great article of the peoples choice of drinks and is it based on loyalty to a brand or their pure preference.

Let's get to know the Dojo:

I would love to hear everyone's go to Beer and their soft drink of choice. I think it is safe to say I could nail almost everyone's beer....cause let's face it I have drank with most of you on several....maybe waaaaaay too many occasions.

I'm a Miller Lite guy and I would categorize nearly everybody else as a "Lite" beer drinker....cause that is just what I see you drinking most of the time.

Now, please state your go-to beer. When you ante up to a bar or are at a buddy's house and they say "You want a beer"? What do you usually drink....7 out of 10 times.

Please don't turn this into (shades of Koko rules) Well My favorite beer is Stella Artois or Sam Adams Winter Ale. Cause I don't think I have seen any of you drinking those beers on a consistent basis. Your go-to beer doesn't have to be your favorite beer just the one you are most loyal to and/or order the majority of the time.

Sully is a Yuengling guy through and through. I would say Koko is a Blue Moon guy and Prosthetic Johnson is a Heineken guy. Other than that I would have to categorize the rest of the Dojo as "Lite" beer guys since that is what I see in your hands the majority of the time. I know Blaze indulges in a Red Stripe from time to time but it is still usually a Lite beer.

Anyway, do you think you are loyal to your beer or drink it cause you just really enjoy the taste? I know mine is about 50/50. I enjoy Miller Lite but I also have a loyalty to it cause it is brewed in my home state.

What about your soft drink preference? I used to be a Coca-Cola guy growing up. Always drink Coca-Cola and rarely venturing to a Pepsi. I beleive this to be cause my Dad was a fiercely loyal Coca-Cola drinker. He claims he like the taste. However, it was not unusual for my Dad and his Sister (my Aunt Ruthie) to remain so loyal to Coca-Cola that when at a restaurant and the waitress gave that old "We have Pepsi not Coke" response they would actually switch their drink order to something else.

They claim they don't like the taste of Pepsi but I believe it is because they feel an intense loyalty to Coca-Cola and don't want to betray that by cheating on them. This is the typical mindset of a Packer fan as well. We feel like it is a badge of honor to remain loyal to something even if it is blind loyalty.

This is why the whole Brett Favre saga is so ugly in Wisconsin. The typical Wisconsin resident can't fathom why he would do that to us? Why would he get so greedy and come back? He is greedy to come back and not leave $20 million on the table. How could he come back for the rival?

Anyway, Just curious to hear everyone's preferences for their beer and soft drink.

Miller Lite for me and I would say Coca-Cola.

I really don't drink soda anymore but when I did it was usually Coke.

Now my go-to drink is Vitamin Water (Energy) the Yellow one.

They all taste like shit. I don't know about you guys, but I drink them for the alcohol.

The one that least taste like shit to me are the wheat beers. If ShockTop or Blue Moon are available, I'll go with those. Otherwise it's whatever light beer is available.

Can't drink regular Coke anymore, it's too sweet. Diet Coke or preferably Coke Zero now.

I have 2 categories. The first is if I know I am going to be drinking a lot, I drink Mic Ultra Amber or Miller lite. If I am only going to have a few, I will drink Shocktop.
Not a big soda fan. I prefer powerade zero or the lifewater pomegranede flavor

Miller lite is my favorite light beer. It is also the most available, so I drink it the most. Smithwicks is currently my favorite and I drink it when available at bars. I like regular coke.

I feel like this is turning into a Facebook page.

Either that or Keith is secretly signing us all up at eHarmony.com.

OOOH, big idea. How about a dating website just for alcoholics.

Why not? They have it for all other factions. Drunks need a forum too.

Keith got me into the Miller Lite and I have been drinking Sam Adams way more then Henieken now because Sam Adams is made in Mass. Also they have so many flavors to pick from. Soooo, my go to beer when at bar is either Miller Lite or Sam Adams.

Like the rest of you, I don't drink that much soda anymore but when I do, it's a Pepsi product. My grandfather use to work for Pepsi and owned his own route in Queens.

I prefer a good Heifenweizen and most Sam adams beers, that is what I keep at home or order if Im only having a couple.
Since I never have just a couple when out , then only lite beer is what I can afford to keep up with my drinking.
Gotta go with the Miller High Life!
The only other beverages I drink are water , milk , juice , Cobra Kai's and Whiskey .

Ding ding ding, it's Yuengling for me. I grew up a Coke kid, but now I order Sprite usually. I cant stand the taste of Pepsi. Will always order a different soda if I'm going in that direction. Ever hear anybody at a bar say "Give me a Jack & Pepsi?" or "Rum & Pepsi?" No, you don't. I hate bars going cheap & serving Pepsi shit. Casey's & Cleo's downtown only carry Coke products. Way to stay real Casey!

Gotta admit, Red Stripe would definitely be my choice for nostalgic reasons..best vacation of my life, mon. Not all watering holes carry the same stock so Miller Lite is the wing man based in part to the Dinger brainwashing. I do drink soda sad as it is and will drink just about any type..I dont discriminate, but my go-to beverage has to be XXX Vitamin Water, the black bottle.
