Reger Rant

Posted by Regs

So, I have a question that has been bugging me for awhile. Since when has it become such a heinous act to have an opinion about something? What ever happened to freedom of speech and freedom of expression in this country?

What I am refering to is the treatment of Larry Johnson and Carrie Prejean by the gay community and the treatment that they are getting by society in general for having certain opinions protected by their civil rights.

Whether you agree with the way Larry Johnson handled himself after another loss (I don't) I certainly think he has an inalienable right to say what he said. For a guy to possibly get suspended for the rest of the season for calling reporters a bunch of faggots is preposterous.

The same thing applies to Carrie Prejean for stating an opinion. (Let's face it, she signed her death certificate when she said that, no matter what the pageant officials said).

It is so hypocritical for gay rights groups to act this way. Supposedly, they stand for equal rights and equal opportunity for all. But this stance only applies if you agree with their stance. Disagree with their opinion and then suddenly you should lose your rights. This whole thing makes me sick.

I personally could care less what people do in the privacy of their own homes. Stick your dicks where you want to, I don't care. But when they force their views on people and act like it is a crime to not share the same views, it makes me less likely to ever vote in their favor again. As long as Larry Johnson is not a hiring employer descriminating against a gay person for a job, he should be allowed to say what he wants. That is the American way, for good and for bad.

The problem Rob is that your are confusing the issue of "rights."

Yes Larry Johnson does have the right to say whatever he likes. He does, he did. No one came and put him in jail. No one came and took away his house and he wasn't given a fine by the US goverment for what he said because his free speech is protected as a citizen of this country.

The problem is that equal rights means exactly that. Equal. Which means the NFL has rights too, as does the owner of the Chiefs and any other private organization or business. They have the right to dismiss any employee that they think misrepresents their company.

If I own a team and one of my players says that Jews are behind all evil in the world, then I have the right to fire him. I can't be forced to employ somone that represents me that way. Yes he had the right to say it, but I also have the right to fire him.

Rights do not negate all consequences. Just because you have the right to do something, does not mean someone else does not have the right to respond.

If the pro-gay support groups would not have stepped forward and demanded that the Chiefs and the NFL do something, nothing would have been done. This is a classic case of the gay community forcing their views on other people. That is what I don't like.

That's ridiculous, they can't force their views on anyone. That's obvious or they would actually have equal rights by now. They are a group that has to fight tooth and nail just to get some basic human rights that they are owed as citizens of this country.

The Chiefs can't be forced to do anything. The Chiefs and the NFL have business on their mind and nothing else. They don't want to be looked at as supporting prejudice, that's bad for business. The exact same reason a lot of teams took a pass on Michael Vick. It's all just business. Of course if this wasn't made public nothing would have happened to him. But it did. And when an employee hurts a business by acting like a moron, they have the right to discipline or fire that employee.

Sometimes I actually think that Koko simply tries to take the opposing view.
You cannot honestly believe that the Chiefs or the NFL for that matter are naturally so PC that they are terribly offended that a member of their organizations would possibbly use a slur about gays.
Puuuleeese!!!!!!!
If there were no gay rights groups out there, nothing would have been done. The Chiefs only care about winning games and the NFL only cares about public perception. For whatever reason, being a homo has become the new "it" thing. Bloggers, tv shows, movies, marches, festivals.
The NFL and the Chiefs reacted the way that they did because they were scared about the backlash of the gays.

The problem is that comments like that make peoples pussy's hurt and in America everyone has a pussy all of the sudden. Lets not hurt anyone's feelings. God forbid if the "Gays" stop going to the football games, it really would destroy the NFL. That being said, Johnson is an idiot, he is still wearing his diapers.

On another note, environmental groups are going after pets now. Saying they leave a huge carbon footprint. I can't wait for PETA and them to get into a huge fight. Hopefully they can wipe themselves off the face of the fucking map. Two less headaches.

Sounds like more of an anti-gay rant to me cause the rest of the stuff just doesn't make any sense at all?

Rob, This time I think Koko has made the correct argument and it IS all about business.

None of LJ's freedom of speech rights were violated because he did say whatever he wanted and he simply got suspended not thrown in jail.

Could you honestly walk into a hospital and in front of the Hospital's top administrators starting dropping racial or homophobic slurs and not think it would affect their opinion of you or the way they do business with you??????

Also, their is probably a ton more going behind the scenes with this head case in LJ and the teams coaching staff. He also said disparaging remarks about the head coach which can't be tolerated. The team is not going to the playoffs this year so it is a perfect time to make an example of Larry. Just like the Broncos did when they suspended Marshall.....look how that turned out.

This time Keith? How about all the fucking time. When you only argue on the side of logic, it's hard to be discredited.

And no Reger I don't just take the opposite side, I take the correct one.

What if it was a white player and he said "nigger," in a comment to the media? Would you still have a problem with him being suspended? No backlash? Yeah right? The guy would have been suspended or even let go depending on how good a player he was.

Of course the NFL is not naturally PC, they are PC because PC is good for business.

This is not a complicated matter at all, Johnson did something that represented his organization in a bad light and he's being disciplined for it. Why is that so unjust?

It is the double standard that I have a problem with. Recently, California had a vote on whether to allow gay marriages. If that vote would have passed, some gay leader would have made some gay speech about how "California has spoken and the people decided". However, because it didn't pass, all of a sudden, the voting process was unacceptable and there were huge protests because somebody had the gall to disagree with them.
You can't have it both ways. Either you believe that people have a right to their opinions or you don't. Either you believe in the process or you don't. But you can't wait until the results are in before you decide whether or not the process is acceptable.

I would never say any racial slurs or anti gay slurs in a Hospital. You guys are right, but I also don't do it at home either.

Rob I'm sorry but you are very confused on this issue and you obviously do not have much respect toward the gay community. That's fine, you can feel whatever way you want. However, you are now skewing this from free speech to civil rights.

Any and I mean any kind of vote that decides whether or not a group of people get to share the same rights as the rest of us is completely unconstitutional.

The rights are theirs by birth according to the laws of this country. Unfortunately on some issues, it takes us a while to figure that out, ie womans rights, black rights, anyone that was not white rights. Eventually the core of the county had to admit that the constiution says what it says.

For the gay community right now, the constitution is not being upheld and they should not stop screaming at the top of their lungs until it is. Much like the persecuted groups that came before them, they have to take what is rightfully theirs.

So when gay groups are outspoken about a vote that disallows them the same rights as the rest of us, they must protest, because the fact that that they had to have a vote at all displays a very sad and sorry malfunction with this country. So they must fight to change it.

I'll admit that I am not an expert on the subject, but from my understanding, a civil union between 2 gay people gives the same constitutional rights as a marriage, without calling it a marriage, primarily for religious reasons. I may not be 100% right.

Swami,
I'm pretty sure I remember from my US Constitution class I took in high school that it says "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" and I also remember seeing a picture of the Trix rabbit with the caption "silly faggot, dicks are for chicks", somewhere in there. I could be wrong though. High School was a very long time ago for me.
