It's Gotta Be the Shoes......

Posted by Keith G.

We have a Shoe War brewing here in Central Florida as UCF is under contract with Adidas and MJ's own son Marcus is refusing to wear them as you can expect he insists on wearing his pops brand of shoes.

Obviously, it must ultimately come down to his own decision. But is this a business decision or a students right to choose what he wears?

UCF has a lucrative contract with Adidas (over $3 Million) for all of its sports program and really can't afford to lose that. Adidas is threatening to pull out of it if the program violates terms by allowing Marcus to wear them. Now, if you were UCF whom would you back? The kid you recruited to UCF and told he could wear his Dad's brand or the Multi Million dollar contract that pays your bills?

This could get ugly. However, it comes back to prove that sports is a business and even in college when the players don't get paid (at least not legally) it all comes down to money. You would think MJ would throw in a good word for UCF and tell Nike to take over the contract but apparently Nike says they have enough representation in Florida with UF, FSU, and the better program (at least last Saturday) the U..........C-A-N-E-S...Canes! Giving all Canes props for the beating they laid on UCF last Saturday.

Anyway, What would you do if you were head of the UCF athletic dept? On a related note the Cobra Kai have offers on the table pending from Mizuno and Nike....

Personally, I would set up camp at Nike headquarters and implore them to offer us a contract......and beg MJ to use some of his weight to get it done. I mean how can MJ not support his own sons school?

Tons of parents donate millions of dollars to schools....Your telling me MJ couldn't simply tell Nike to take over the contract and he will split it with them?????

Was Marcus promised he could wear Nike's? If not, then put on the same damn shoes as the rest of the team.

And even if he was promised, it's his dad that was the superstar, right now he's a nothing. Can he score one basket before becoming a prima donna please?

I'm surprised MJ hasn't just told his son to shut up and play.

Marcus was promised by recruiters he could wear his Dad's line. I do understand his need to wear his Dads shoes......I certainly would do it.

I'm sure his Dad loves the publicity as well.

I agree with Koko, tell him to suck it up and shut the fuck up. He ain't shit! or his dad should foot the bill. No pun intended.

I read about this a couple days ago & didn't think there would be any ramifications from adidas. I'll try to see if I can get any insider info from Lauren about this subject.

He should wear Addidas shoes per contract however, if UCF told this kid he could wear Jordan shoes during the recruitment process, doesn't the blame fall on UCF for not delivering on a promise to him? I am sure that this was discussed by Lil' Jordan and UCF and now it seems that with all the wrong publicity UCF is getting in this matter, they will have to pick a side, Money or Fame...Lil' Jordan should just let his game do the talking and let this issue go before it spirals out of control and ends up costing more in the long run than money..like his name or his game. MJ should not really be involved in the discussion b/c let's face it..if you're the parent in this matter do you really want to have that much influence on your child's first path of life choice? The kid already is living in a shadow and it ultimately will come down to his judgment on this issue to part the clouds and let the sun shine down on his career. UCF should publicly apologize to him and all involved in the matter if found at fault which I believe they are.

Marcus has a unique opportunity here, and with MJ as a dad I would be very surprised if he lets this get out of control.

Marcus can be the bigger man and show some team unity. Perhaps UCF thought it was not going to be a big deal and then realized they promised something they could not deliver. It would not be a shock to know that UCF fucked something up with athletics.

What would be shocking is if Marcus rode this out to the bitter end, forcing the team to pony up a bunch of money or putting them in a bad position. His teammates are going to immediately label him as a prima donna and every shot he takes will be scrutinized even more than it already will be. MJ should give his some some solid advice and tell him to wear the shoes the rest of the team wears.

Who the fuck wants to wear Addidas shoes anyway? Let Jordan swing his weight and get a real company like Nike to pony up and sponsor the team. The buyout can't be that bad for a low-mid level team.

Hey Guys. There is a Link on the column the part highlighted in Green.

1.There is no Buy Out. The Problem is they don't want to loose Addidas cause Nike said they don't want them cause they already spent enough in the state for sponsorship.

2. Marcus is adamant about wearing Jordans....I mean it is basically his company. He made that point clear when being recruited.

3. MJ most likely does not want him to wear his main competitors shoes. I mean I think right now the business is more important to them than Marcus playing b-ball

4. He has the right to wear what he wants.....it's just Adidas has the right to pull the contract.
