Steroids Shmeroids

Posted by Koko

I'm so done with this subject. Now it comes out that Terry Bradshaw did steroids to recover from injuries back in his playing days. I applaud Bradshaw for saying this without anything to gain. It helps all the ridiculous controversy with current players and everlasting arguments over stats. All anyone cares about is the precious record book. YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE NUMBERS!! I don't care if McGwire, Sosa, A-Rod or whoever are on enough drugs kill Keith Richards. The problem is you can not selectively change or remove statistics based which records we like best. This will create a domino effect that never ends.

Say you wipe out only the stats of the players who have admitted to steroid use. And keep in mind, players like McGwire, Sosa, and Clemens have never admitted to using illegal substances. Ok, so do you then only take away the stats for the years they used it or their entire career? Do you then also take away individual awards like MVP's, batting titles, etc? What about championships? If a player or players on steroids helped win a championship do we now strip a team of their rings? If so I hope the entire 1989 Oakland A's team knows exactly what pawn shop they hocked their rings at.

Also, what about other supposed "clean" players whose stats were inflated because of their steroid using teammates. How do you account for all the RBI's non using steroid players obtained while their "dirty" mates were on base? How about all the pitchers who were bailed out by a juiced-up homer. This slippery slope never ends, and the biggest fact is that we have no idea just how much these drugs actually inflate numbers. Is it 20%, 30%, 50% there's no way to tell.

The slope slides even further with all of the old-time players who took all kinds of drugs that were never tested for. Should we now say the Steel Curtain championships from the '70's are null and void? What about cortisone? Why is that ok. Hell why is Gatorade ok? It's an advantage isn't it? Sure it's on a different level, but the fact is that energy drinks, advanced whey proteins, creatine, and all kinds of supplements available at your local GNC were not around during Maris' *61. Ironic how the now impervious "61 in '61" was originally seen as unfair due to the fact that Maris broke 60 homers in a longer season than Ruth. What about all the players caught cheating with corked bats, or substances on the ball. Why don't we eliminate all of their stats as well? It's cheating isn't it?

The point here is that times change. Technology will never stop until we are slaves, fighting against the machines as we follow John Conner in the rebellion. I know how it all goes down, I've seen all the Terminators like a hundred times ok.

Now if baseball or any other sport wants to make a substance illegal than that is their right. But you can't enjoy the spoils when you had your back turned and then some 10 years later act shocked and surprised all the athletes in your league look like Ivan Drago. Let what was just be what it was. You can't change the past, nor can you move objects with your mind. Believe me I've tried many, many, many times. It's just a complete waste of an afternoon.

Punish those who break the rules going forward now that clear and defined lines have been drawn. But leave the damn numbers alone.

I agree! Lets move foward, set strict rules and standards. Hopefully that can keep the youth of this country from using these "substances". Fucking fags, just say drugs! Koko is 100% right with mentioning cortisone. It is a corticosteroid used for its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

The media, especially the "old media" is so fucking caught up with the past that it is missing a pretty good present and will surely miss the future.

Getting a leg up on the competition has always occurred and will always occur. It is just that now the technology is a little more advanced.

I hate these stories too! With a passion! You could spend every day and every night for a year talking about ways players throughout history have bent the rules to win or outright did illegal things.

The only solution is for the individual sports to police themselves as well as they can and hand down huge penalties to the players who get caught. That's it!

By the way, I'd like to thank everyone for not posting anything about Cayle Anthony on the site. Oh crap, I just did!

If your not cheating, your not doing everything in your power to win.

I thinks this is a case where you have nerdy sportswriters writing articles about athletes and the locker room mentality they have no idea about. Plus, the media loves Hype and a great lead and a great story and right now exposing the inner circle of sports is the hot item.

Yes, Steriods is cheating and in one way it is a good thing they are exposing everything cause it is a good way to start cleaning up the sport. But is that what we really want?

I mean the Steriod era originally saved baseball? And who doesn't love a bone crushing hit in football from some juiced up linebacker?

And how can you penalize people for something they did in the past and were never caught for?

How can you penalize A-Rod or what the fuck is up with Cops wanting to press charges against Michael Phelps??????

And, I've never understood the way McGwire has been exhiled from baseball. Wasn't he juicing on Andro, which he had sitting in his locker all the time and you could purchase at GNC and was not a banned substance at the time?

And great use of Ivan Drago Koko.

Wow for once we're actually all on the same page. That's no fun. Fuck that, that's no fun at all. I'm going against my own opinion to start an argument . . .

Fuck these steroid juice heads. Wipe all of their records from the books. We must preserve the sanctity of the golden age of baseball. None of those players ever did anything to gain an edge. They were complete boyscouts and had a high moral outlook on the game. Especially Ty Cobb. He was a great humanitarian. Wasn't he a founding member of the NAACP?

ASTERISKS FOR EVERYONE!!!
