Director Zack Snyder, most famous for his comic book adaptations of 300 and Watchmen will be in charge of the next Superman film currently titled: Superman: The Man of Steel, due out in 2012.
For the title role he has chosen lesser-known actor Henry Cavill who's most noteworthy credit is a recurring role in the Showtime series The Tudors.
I feel the same way about this choice that I did about Brandan Routh in Superman Returns, neither excited or upset. The role of Superman has always been filled by a virtual unkown because the character is too big to overcome for an established star.
Personally I was rooting for Joe Manganiello who plays Allicide on TruBlood. I thought he had the perfect demeanor and physical attributes but I guess Snyder sees something special in Cavill. At 6'1" Cavill is a little shorter than previous Supermans. The character is supposed to be around 6'4", which is where both Reeve and Routh were, and Mangeniello is 6'5". Also, Cavill will need to hit the gym really hard as he needs to add about 20 lbs of muscle for this. Routh had to do the same thing and pulled it off so I'm not worried about that. I'm sure the studio will have the best trainers money can buy working with Cavill.
I trust Snyder as he has given me absolute zero reason to doubt him with his past work. I also put full trust in Christopher Nolan who is producing this film with a screenplay written David S. Goyer who also wrote all 3 Nolan Batman films and the first Blade.
