Koko's Replacement in Training?

Posted by Keith G.

Wow....just when you think American Youth sports cant get any more ludicrous this story breaks. From the parents that brought you trophies for every player and not keeping score we offer you Jerricho Scott.

Nine-year-old Jericho Scott has been banned from pitching in a New Haven, Conn., youth baseball league because he throws so hard that he frightens the other players, according to league officials. But he took to the mound on Saturday anyway, so the other team simply dropped their bats and left the field, refusing to face him. Next logical step for all involved? Lawsuits!

The fighting started this week when Coach Wilfred Vidro refused a directive by league officials to replace 9-year-old pitcher Jericho Scott, whose pitching they say is so hard, fast and accurate that it might frighten or discourage other players.

So why not just move him up a league? Since I don't have a kid or am not affiliated with any (at least to the best of my knowledge) I guess I am not the most logical voice on this issue. However, after competing in sports since a child I really can't fathom the need to ban this kid unless he has hurt somebody.....which he hasn't. Well, I guess it is up to the ever present legal system to sort out even youth sports now.

Yeah if he's so accurate what's to be afraid of?

Does anyone have the Steinbrenner's number? I'd like to give them a head up.

Throw some pinstripes on that kid!

I love how they quote the coach and he says "He is so acurate, that it might frighten and frustrate the younger players"......Yeah, I would have loved to have not had to face Dave Grisa (Stud from my Little town) when I was in youth league but that was not an option.

Also, great idea Koko on Contacting the Steinbrenner's the Yanks definitely need some help in their ever depleting farm system.

But.....I'm sure they would sign him and then promptly trade him away for a stop-gap Starter next year desperate to make the playoffs after missing it this year.

Keith! You are entering a world of pain.

I'd strongly advise you to back off your current and long running line of attacks towards the Yankees.

This is the only warning you will receive.

Be advised, you are entering a world of pain.

Tree hugging parents, make tree hugging kids. Another thing wrong in this world of ours. Whah, Whah, Whah...I hate people.

Koko, please bring the house of pain on Keiths ass. I feel like laughing.

The part of the story that keeps getting forgotten is that I believe the boy was offered an opportunity to play in a higher division and in a neighboring, more competitive league and he said "no" because he wanted to play with his friends. It was at that point that they banned him from the league. So he had options.

The league was called a developmental league because most players had never played before. The kid (if he's that good) should find a level of competition that suits his talents because he won't get any better by just striking everybody out in the developmental league anyways.

The kid is 9. Let him play with his friends. No matter what league you play in there is always a beast no one wants to face, you live with it. Are beast is J-Dub. The fucker won't pitch every game anyway.

No Mets fan should ever be calling anyone a pansy. That's like Lance Bass calling someone a Fag.
